What do you guys think? How would it do? I've seen some larger Busse's on here, but I forgot what they are called. Dragonfang, maybe? Has anyone ever cut with one?

I have cut a bunch with my AK.
Works great

Dragonfang and Chukette are two very large unique custom Busse Combats. They made production runs of AKs (katana-sized), Rucks (wakizashi-sized), Gladius (Roman-based double-edged short sword), and MOABs (Mother of all Bowies; technically a knife, but roughly equivalent to a falchion in size). Many of those runs are also from the custom shop, but they were released in sufficient quantities that they come up for sale every so often in the Exchange. By all reports, they hold up very well to hard use. I own an AK and three Gladiuses (as well as three Scrap Yard Scrapizashis), but haven't used any of them.

the AK is a Wakizashi sized sword. Swamp Rat and Scrap yard have similarly sized models in other steels. The ruck is slightly smaller. All perform quite well.

IMHO, INFI is an incredible source of steel for swords. Its maleable, chip resistant, easily sharpened and yet still holds its edge well. THese are the most important aspects IMO when it comes to choosing a steel for a sword. I have used the AK, and Ruck a lot. I owned the snakeskin Dragon fang for over a year and cut a lot of air with it. Its an amazing blade and it handles exceptionally well for its size, but in todays times the shorter length of the Ak and Ruck are much better suited for camping, brush clearing, chopping, and personal defense ( since hardly anyone is running around with a full size katana or heaven forbid a claymore etc). THe ak and ruck are a decent size and are much easier to use indoors if needed to clear a house etc.

THese are just the thoughts of a Die Hard Hog and not that of a professional that has any real world experience with combat. Although, I would not suggest you come and break into my house. My kids even have their own gladius':D:D

Heres my first and only video review so far. It was on the gladius. Here is the thread with the videos.

I have often wondered how an AK/Dragon Fang would fair against a classily constructed Samurai sword of equal size in blade on blade combat. Of course to have a perfectly equal test you may need to use identically constructed Samurai androids programmed in multiple sword fighting styles. Which if they existed would become larger problems then it was worth when the machines ultimately take over…

That said I neither have the training, droids, or disposable income to test such a thing.

Okay guys, you're the experts... i am but an egg...

so can you tell me if there is any other commonly used production steel that offers similar (or better) performance than INFI?

I'm looking for a true "jack of all trades" blade, and i'm only going to buy ONE, so i want to be absolutely sure that I get the right one.

1150 for the AK47 is a very steep for me, but if that's the only good option, i'll have to spend it... on the other hand, if there's something else out there that is CLOSE to or better than the AK with a similar profile that isn't quite as expensive, please let me know

Ive got a http://www.sword-buyers-guide.com/authentic-ninja-sword.html and its pretty damn tough, i got it hair whittlin sharp and can cut through anything with it. and its 240 bucks. Watch the vids, it gets bent right over and springs back, chops steel and all that fancy stuff. I also have an AK 47, havent got a chance to beat on it yet but it feels great in the hand but is a little light and short for zombie killin. The ak is WAY tougher though, especially handle style.

Of course they are totally different animals but its the only short sword i can personally recommend from first hand experience.

Short is the goal... you can't draw a 28" katana from a back harness without some SERIOUS contortions.

I'm looking for something 22" ish or less. The AK fits that nicely.

Closest you're going to come to that are:
Swamp Rat Rodent Waki (exchange ~$400 - $450)
Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki (company store right now, $300 - $350)

I agree, a rat would suit those purposes well, totally forgot they were up on the store! I might pick up a rucki for one handed use. The AK is a bit large to swing one handed.

1150 is almost double retail price, Unless it is some satin finished custom shop model.

Carrying a sword on your back is impractical at best. Aside from looking like a complete goofball, you have the problem of trying to resheath the thing without stabbing or cutting yourself.

I have the carry thing dealt with... as to the weapon, if i could find one in ANY finish for half the price, i'd go that way

i can't seem to find ANY for sale under a grand anywhere

Didja miss my post? :p Why not a Swamp Rat Waki or Rucki??? Here is a comparison shot:

Top is the AK, the one under it is the Rodent Waki. Bottom is the Rodent Rucki, and the one above it is the Busse Ruck.

Or you could carry it under a trench coat . . . immortal style. There can be only one.

A minute ago you implied that you wanted to carry it on your back.

Keep an eye on the exchange, I sold mine for around what I paid. maybe post a WTB and a decent individual might help you out.

Or maybe check for shows, if they have one you could get a proxy to buy for you.
Perhaps call the shop.

The ONLY reason i want the AK is that the INFI steel is the toughest thing on the market. The Waki is my second choice. The Rucki is too small
