INFI as a sword steel....

The ONLY reason i want the AK is that the INFI steel is the toughest thing on the market. The Waki is my second choice. The Rucki is too small
Gotit. You said you wanted something that offers similar (or better) performance than INFI, and SRKW's SR-101 is exactly that. Some say it is better in certain respects like edge holding, and it is still pretty darn tough. INFI compromises being the absolute best at everything, while still doing everything better than most. It is a VERY good compromise. ;) I believe Mr. Busse has called SR-101 the non-stainless version of INFI (at a much reduced price). FWIW.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :D

And the Waki is a bit newer so its a little easier to find, and less expensive on the secondary market.

Not even an honorable mention for the Scrap Yard Scrapizashi? It stood up the .50 cal graze in the Busse test shootout -- it probably won't hold an edge quite as well as INFI or SR101 (I'm not even sure about that, but that's the generally accepted opinion), but you'd be hard pressed to find a tougher blade steel than SR77.

Not really interested in the Scrapi... too short.

i want something that offers a FULL two hand grip

whatever i get is gonna get the ban tang treatment if he will deign to allow me his services.

The scrapizashi and Waki are spd so I figured I'd snap you a pic before I send them off. The scrapizashi is only barely shorter, with just as long of a grip. The blade is slightly longer than the Waki. That's my Grail blade with them, matching Ruck not pictured. Mineral oil on the scrapizashi and wedding cake icing on the AK. Need to clean that sheath out

Does this mean its time for a BUSSE CLAYMORE DEATHCHAT!!!????

I know right. I would love to see a Busse sword shaped just like the Gladius but with about a 25" to 28" blade and around a 12" handle. It'd be like the Conan Atlantian Sword. My Gladius is a little hard to control being so thick and heavy and only a single hand tool.

Okay guys, you're the experts... i am but an egg...

so can you tell me if there is any other commonly used production steel that offers similar (or better) performance than INFI?

I'm looking for a true "jack of all trades" blade, and i'm only going to buy ONE, so i want to be absolutely sure that I get the right one.

1150 for the AK47 is a very steep for me, but if that's the only good option, i'll have to spend it... on the other hand, if there's something else out there that is CLOSE to or better than the AK with a similar profile that isn't quite as expensive, please let me know
THe Ak you are referring to for $1150 is a new and unused satin/black g10 fully convexed custom shop ak-47 seen here.

Since there is no listing in the posted price guide I will tell you a little of what I have learned from my time here. Keep in mind as "Die Hard Hog" most of my time here is a blur as I have been drinking most of the time;):D
THe two listings in the price guide here are for recent made Ak-47 that were coated combat grades w/ v-edges. If memory serves me the first cg ak-47 and not the american kensei were 597 ish 6 or so years ago give or take two weeks:D

AK47 - black blade, black/tan G-10 (2007 BloodBathaGanzaa): $647
AK47 - black blade, Black bolster/tan canvas (2010 ShamRuckO'Ganzaaa): $797

Now the satin convex versions came out couple years ago I believe. I got most of these at Easton and KC two years ago and were $987 for canvas or black paper and were $997 for g10 + 6% tax at show puts you roughly at $1060 without accounting for time off, gas, food and lodging to attend the show. THen it needs to be shipped which is an expense for $20ish or so uninsured. So, 1150-1080=$70 potential on almost $1100 knife purchased many moons ago. THis equates to roughly a 6% markup. THis is less than it would have cost you to attend the show. Which VS the waki, Rucki and scrapi would equate to aprroximately $18-30 markup + the same $20 ish to ship on the much cheaper versions mentioned. SO, really your talking about $20 additional markup from MSRP.

Now with that being said, I will say this cause Bravado hasnt spoke up yet but remember where you are;) THis is the Busse forum...THis is Sparta!;):D

You cant compare those others blades to the AK cause they arent INFI. Cause there is no comparison:cool: We are all here cause of the INFI. Not sr101 or s7 or anything else. Its all about the INFI baby. Just ask Amy-0 if you dont believe me:thumbup::D

Now, with all that put aside if you are willing to compromise there are some amazing pieces for half the money that will do more than you will probably ever ask of it in the scrapyard and swamprat lines. Albeit, they wont do much for you here in the Busse forum.;) Yep, they are cool as all get out in their perspective forums:) I own them all and this is my personal opinion on them.

I love the new Rodent Rucki. If you dont have one you should get it. Its basically the same as the Ruck with a pointy tip and a better handle. THe scrapizashi is just awesome. I have one in each color and they are one of my favorites. THe waki would rate at the bottom of the list for me. I just dont like the horns on it.

Now, here are some pics for your enjoyment:cool::)

Some great pieces have passed through your hands Trevor  For those who are looking for a sword and want a sword in Infi which approaches a Japanese Katana .... there really is only the Dragon Fang as the others are much shorter ... or you could place an order from the custom shop but it would be a very expensive blade ...

Personally I was happy with a true Japanese Samauri Katana ... in sterling mine cost £1500 or say around $2250 in dollars and was an 18th century blade ... I used it for Aido and that was all ... cutting down trees etc or for that matter using one on my webbing for a lot of years serving in our Army I prefered a khukri ... like many here swords do fascinate me ... but for a versatile combat blade I doubt you could beat a khukri ... for home protection they will work a lot more effectively in a confined space than a Katana or IMO than an AK or a Ruck ...

You still see a lot of khukri's carried in Afghanistan ... I have never seen anyone carry a sword ...

wow, that is some SERIOUS blade PRON!!!

I want INFI badly, but getting together the 1100+ will take some financial gymnastics. If i could find one of the lower end versions of the AK47, i'd probably be all over it.

I could always have it modded later if i felt like i needed it.

I'm just gonna have to wait a little while and sell a few things.

thanks for the input sir

ROTFLMAO!!! Now, you sir, are truely screwed... :D

PS - GREAT pics Hunter!!!

There are standard, Combat Grade AK47s available on the Exchange if you look hard enough.

I have the carry thing dealt with... as to the weapon, if i could find one in ANY finish for half the price, i'd go that way

i can't seem to find ANY for sale under a grand anywhere

You're not looking back far enough on the excange. I'll bet if you looked hard enough you could find "Two AKs and a Ruck" for $850 each that have been listed there for over a year. Not half the price, but well under a grand.

(I'd send you a link, but there's doesn't seem to be a PM or email option for you.)

Those of you familiar with Sheffield knifemakers might recognise Grace Horne

Thanks for hijacking my thread, Be Prepared.

There is no hijacking in the Busse forum, only thread drift, lighten up a bit and have a beverage. :)

It happens so often it has become mandatory, so you might as well get used to it.

INFI is the best all around, but SR 77 on the Scrap Yard Wakizashi may be tougher. If some one knows please chime in.
Thanks
Al
