???? INFI dimples ????

I thought that INFI dimples came from the manufacture of the INFI steel plates, and when ground they were gone. But on my CE Sarsquatch they come all the way down the convex grind across the shoulder and stop at the edge grind.
Also is INFI forged, stamped, or powder metallurgy cast ?
:o It feels kinda funny asking such a nubie question, after all I've been reading these forums for 6 years :o

INFI is made from fairy dust by elves that Jerry keeps drunk and working in a guarded compound in Wauseon.

Why do you think the rest of the elf world has such ire for Busse afficionados?

Who doesn't know that!!! What a Nube...:D:D

Alright, you jokers!! Especially you, Guyon (you academic, you)!! :grumpy:

The dimples do seem to be imparted by the manufacturing process. The Competition Grade finish ... the newest of all the Busses finishes ... was meant to save the customers (us -- you) money by skipping most of those finicky stages that produce shiny knives.

You get the performance without some of the cost. AND you get to see those luscious dimples up close. Oh ... and the shop puts a very nice slicing edge on the knife, to boot.

Hope this answers your question. And now, back to hazing! :D

How do those 'dimples' arise in the manufacturing process? Jerry isn't telling -- but some of us do have our opinions. We ain't tellin', either. :)

Alright, you jokers!!

Who's joking? Do you think Jerry would be selling to the elves if he wasn't already employing (enslaving?) them?

It has recently leaked out that Busse Combat is making knives for elves. Let that sink in a second...

That's right. Elves.

And not just any old run-of-the-mill, Middle-Earth savin', bow-and-arrow totin', piercing-eyed elves. We're talking about guerilla elves armed with INFI. They're out there, in the gloomy places that send a shiver down your spine on cold, dark nights.

Keebler, it has been discovered, is just a front for the real militant elf faction that could change the very way we think about cookies.

I realize I am putting my life in peril by amassing the information below, but someone has to stand up and shed light on the truth. Otherwise, elves will wind up with all the good INFI. So, I present you with...

Exhibit One:
Keebler front man holding a Sus Scrofa.

Exhibit Two:
Documentation of the super secret KGB-1 bravely smuggled out of elf territory by LVC.

Exhibit Three:
Actual photographs of an elf blade about to be shipped out by Busse Combat. Acquired through a hobbit spy ring associated with LVC.

Since nobly blowing his own cover in order to bring this faction to light, LVC has relocated "by the sea". (Elves don't like sandy beaches and the hot sun.) It is up to us to make his sacrifices worthwhile.

More evidence...

But they cost the same $287.00..;)
It's a great knife, I just didn't know the dimples were added to the INFI after the blade was ground

GUYON! QUIT SNORTING THE FAIRIE DUST..........SHEESH!

Cartophilis, friend to the little folk...

and you still don't know when they are added. no one said they were added before or after grinding :D

Don't worry about the dimples, just enjoy the final product.

I personally like the dimples

Holy crap, Cobalt. Imagine if Kirk Douglas' dimple was that big. ROTFL!

And my Squatch dimples stop at the top of the grind. There are grindmarks on the convex, but no INFI dimples.

I am sure not an expert but I was under the impression that the dimples were a result of the heat treat process. That means that they appear after the blade is ground to shape but before the final polish and edge are put on.

You're really close. The fact is that those dimples are simply spots where Scotch spills on the raw steel just before it is heat treated.

I use to have a stripped HeavyHeart and that had dimples on the flats and was smooth from the cutting edge to a grind line. the SARsquatch is a convex blade that has dimples everywhere except the cutting edge.
If I could find the battery charger for my camera I'd take a picture

Even if it is fairy dust ,the process that are used for the heat treat and manufacture of Busse knives are probably a pretty important thing to keep secret. One reason Busse has great knives is all the testing they(and us)do. I noticed that another person who does a lot
of testing is Ed Fowler and they both use diff tempered 52100/SR101. Anyone can buy good steel of the open market but it is what the knife companies do with it in relation to geometry and heat treat or whatever crazy proccess the elves have developed over the years. Maybe the knives are heat treated under giant weights and the dimples form from that?

I love the comp kives. They have a certain honesty to them and the logo looks fantastic on the dimpled INFI. The edges rock as well.

I would love a comp FSH.

Look at the handle region of this knife:

That looks like a A2 Police recruit since all three holes are the same size. INFI dimples are a myth, even A2 knives appear to have them.........

.

I've got a CE-grade FSH. Of course it started out as a regular FSH and someone sanded it down and convex'd it. And then used the snot out of it. Then resharpened it. One of my keepers. Even with my love of the Squatch, I'd be hard-pressed to sell that knife. It's been my kindling-splitter for the winter.
