Well I finally made it home 3 days ago. I'm still recovering from the extreme time change. The Mentawaii Islands are 16 hours ahead and a day in the future compared to the time here in California. There was a slight delay in getting there as spearguns are illegal in the People's Republic Of China. I was pulled out of line while trying to board my flight in Hong Kong and detained by the police. They threatened to arrest me until the chief arrived and decided to let me go with a warning. our flight left without us on board. Note to self, "Don't bring spearguns through China". Also never fly Cathay Pacific airlines if you can help it. They were extremely unhelpful and my friends and I had to purchase new tickets on another airline to get to indonesia. This chain of events made us miss the remaining 2 flight and 2 boat rides to make it out to the island I was staying on. The whole time I was thinking they were going to freak out about my Busse NMSFNO that was in with my spearguns and surfboards. They didn't even bat an eye at my knife. My NMSFNO came in extremely handy while harvesting coconuts. I thought I would share some pics of my trip with all of you. I feel extremely lucky to have visited and made it home safely. Oh yeah, I'm really amazed at how well the INFI held up in the salt air and water. Every time I was done using it, I just wiped the blade off on a shirt and never once found any rust whatsoever on the edge of the blade. Pretty amazing for a non stainless steel.
My friends are building a resort there and this coconut tree needed to be removed. There's the prized heart of palm residing in the tree and I figured I would give my NMSFNO a chance at harvesting the treasure inside.
30 minutes of chopping and one blood blister later.
The coveted Heart Of Palm
The ocean was like a large aquarium and along with perfect waves every day, the spear fishing was off the charts.
