what was the final word on INFI wedding rings? i purchased an engagement ring at Shane Co. today and overheard a sales woman say how Shane was dropping tungsten from their lineup because apparently it shatters when dropped on slate flooring. This got me thinking about a thread i saw one time about INFI wedding rings.
what was the concensus, yay or nay?
if yay, does anyone have one or know of a ballpark price?

I don't think you need INFi for a ring, unless edge holding while flexible and tough while chopping was a criteria.

You sound like you need a titanium wedding ring. Indestructible, 5x stronger than steel, and it may keep something from crushing your finger one day.

I dont like any of those indestructable rings because if something causes your fingers to swell up they have to cut the finger off, remove the ring, and reattach it.

I knew you were from Colorado because you went to Shane Co. Now I have those commercials stuck in my head.

I'd be surprised if Shane Co dropped the Tungsten rings due to how popular they were and how many other stores carry them. That'd be like a liquor store dropping Budwiser.s

+1 for the Tungsten carbide ring.

Not sure how wear resistant INFI would be, but I know that titanium scratches VERY easily. I have a titanium watch, and a few knives, and they wer all scratched to heck not long after wearing/carrying them.

I've been wearing my Tungsten wedding band for over 3 years now and not even a hint of a scratch. Still a perfect mirror finish!

And as stated before, in an emergency it can be broken off your finger with a pair of vise-grips.

the only thing about titanium rings is that they scratch very very very easily.. i have been married for about 6 months now and its scratched all to hell.. not that i care, but some do..

I have a titanium wedding band, and while it is scratched a bit, its not nearly as bad as my wife's gold band. Im surprised actually that it has resisted this much wear, and I dont baby the thing. You can also just refinish it with a dremel if it gets too scratched

Titanium isn't 5x stronger than steel, it is comparable to mild steel in most cases, generally it is a bit softer than steel, and a lot softer than hardened steel.

That's not true, there are no indestructible rings, softer rings can be cut easily by probably any ER in the country, or even some EMT devision. Harder rings such as Tungsten Carbide can easily be broken off. Both cases with little or no damage to the finger underneath.

I bought a silver wedding ring for myself a week after I got married from one of those Silver Spot stores in the mall.

most rings are made of fairly soft metal, gold, silver, platinum, even ti.

iirc, jerry made an infi ring a couple years ago by special request. if that's what you want, give the shop a call.

keep in mind infi is not stainless, and will rust/corrode.

Ventura has a hardened titanium for their watches that doesn't scratch.

Personally, I would go with a platinum ring, but it costs big bucks.

also not hypoallergenic:

Ni 0.74% Nickel

The last thing I'd want in a ring is rust forming against my finger, and I'm pretty positive that that's what would happen. maybe theres a way to make it work, but there are way better steels and materials for rings. If I did it I'm pretty sure I'd only use it as a covered/sealed insert.

the benefit of tungsten carbide is that it's dirt cheap, it is however super hard and will crack. I'm a big fan of titanium in general.

As stated, Ti is a good option. Been wearing one for 6 years now, and yes, it's scratched, but to the point now of looking more like a brushed finish. The ring actually saved my finger from a mini die grinder one day, and bears a scar to prove it.

Ti isn't stronger than steel per se, but it does have a higher tensile strength if I remember correctly.

Pound for pound TI is stronger than steel. However, if weight is not a concern, the same thicknes of steel is stronger. It's just heavier.

I've had a Boone Rings Ti thumb ring for about 10 years, I wear it anytime I'm out, and its the only ring I've ever had that held a perfectly round shape. I never noticed any real problem with scratching, its far more scratch resitant than the gold or silver rings I used to wear, I've pried a number of bottle caps off with it and theres no real noticible damage. It gets fine scratches like any other ring would, but polishes out pretty easily, even by hand.

Titanium has a lot of "memory". That's why I like my Ti eye glass frames. If they ever do get bent (takes a much hard lick then falling several feet to a tile floor), they are hell to get straightened though.

I like titanium. And if something happens and they have to remove my finger and sew it back on...then I just have another interesting story to go in my memoirs.
