So does anyone know the relative difference between the steels? Is it worth spending twice as much for the infi steel version of an AK or Ruck? I have not seen any torture tests like the 11 part FBM test on youtube for the WAKI, so I was just curious if anyone knows a percentage ratio (like if the SR-101 is roughly 75% as strong as the Infi Steel)( or 25% more flexible). And what does the nitrogen in the Infi steel do to it??? Any alchemists out there?

INFI is much more corrision resistant.

SR101 holds an edge a little longer.:foot:

As for toughness, who really knows...

It's not just the steel, the AK47 cost more money and are more collectible because less made and harder to get. If you are going to use it, the WAKI is great for the amount you pay for it. But then again, what are you going to do with it. Busse hold a better value if you are going to collect. If you are going to use, and it's light chopping, there is still the Bushwacker that you can order though Busse with whatever option you are looking for and it can cost less then the WAKI.

I am on the same page as you Liu Kang, I cringe thinking about using my recently acquired AK on a tree unless I had to(would use a $30 ax prob), to me these knives are more about having overkill in case you need it. Unless it is the end of the world Book of Eli style, i am prob not going to chop trees with it. I saw you have a ruck for sale (850), how many rucks were made by the way? I saw your AK also, I wanted to buy it but lacked funds for the moment.

thanks for the knowledge Gregs and Canary, I appreciate it. I wish they were not so secretive about their steels in regards to comparison since they are all part of the Busse Group, but I can see why they are.

There is no fear in using it, beat the crap out of it, then send it to the spa, and sell it for what you bought it for or more. Consider a spa fee, a renting fee. Especially on expensive models, the relative cost of getting it recoated and resharpened or refinished is small compared to the cost of the entire blade.

I don't think we will ever know how many Rucks were made but they were never a production piece. These were available only at Ganzas and Shows, so much harder to get.
And like many Busse, they are beautiful pieces and can take a beating like no other knives but it doesn't mean you have to use it. It's good enough to me to know what it can do should I need to use it. But I don't feel the need to use them and think collecting them is just fine.
As a HOG, you pay for it, you can choose to do whatever you want, use it or put it in a safe. To each their own.

I can see both of your points. Part of me wants to keep it in tiptop shape, part of me wants to use it knowing i can get it resharpened/refinished. So can you get the combat grades totally recoated by Busse? will they put a convex edge on it if I want? everyone on forums says to put convex edges on nearly all busses, what do you guys think?

Convex it and Use it. You never *really* own a knife unless you use it.

Good article, There needs to be an archive section on this forum with info like this so that noobs like me can understand why this InFI is so superior to most other metals, plus its hard to find detailed info about these knives. Do you guys send it off to busse to get convexed, local smiths or diy?

A lot of guys do it themselves, I would probably send it to someone since I'm clueless when it comes to re-profiling the blade.

yeah ,me too for now until i delve deeper into how to do it well, i can just see myself screwing it up, especially on a longer sword edge, do they sell convex sharpeners that are fool proof? prob not

Ever see "The Hunted" with John Lone and Christopher Lambert??

Remember the scene where the moody Samurai guy breaks his sword at the hilt on the train rather than let the police take a complete samurai sword into custody?

You can't do that with either the AK or the Waki. You'll break your Samurai before you break the sword. :)

The epic struggle of Samurai vs. Ninja. If you tried to break the Ak like in the movie and failed you would have to cut your face off in shame with a tanto like the crazy chick on the train in the previous scene. I want a little bow like the ninjas use in that movie by the way, very cool

LOL

I forgot the bow the Ninja used. I just remember (from looking to see if the break-the-katana scene was on youtube) the samuretta's bow - sorta girly for sure. You couldn't take a full draw on that thing.

The middle of that movie was great. The end was sorta like Rocky in Tokyo. LOL

The bow that the ninja duo use in the hospital stairwell that take the detective out is badddd. using movie ballistics, the 15 inch bow sent an arrow across a wing of a hospital to another wing , went thru psycho-rated glass, and pierced the neck of the unknowing detective before he was done with his sushi. need one. what is the bad guys name??? kenshi or kenji? i think the best part of the movie is when he hits him in the head with a rock till he can count to 5
