It seems to me (and I am very new here) that there is a lot of back and forth sales between regulars and dealers that inflates the value of these pieces with all of the activity bouncing around...

Such is the free market. Buyers and sellers come together and when a price is agreeable for a given item a deal is made. Supply and demand - are the forces behind such pricing.

No one has to buy - until they find a price/value combination they like. And its not like food - demand can be very elastic at times. Like whenever I try to sell something! :)

Hang out, stay for a while......have a glass of bourbon..........or a beer. A little research and patience will go a long way if your worried about overpaying for a Busse knife. You will find that some dealers have very fair prices that are really close to the original price and other dealers that choose to charge $200 to as much as $400 over what the knife would cost you if you just ordered it directly from the shop. You will find the same with regulars and sometimes if your patient enough, you can find a real good deal. Don't worry about inflated prices-none of us are obligated to buy from any one dealer and like everything else that we buy, you gots to put a little work in and shop around for a good or fair price.

Price comes down to what a person is willing and able to pay for a good.

I think what OP is saying here is that he noticed some back and forth transactions have been taking place between the same regulars at the exchange boards, and that those transactions take place at the inflated (fixed) rates, in order to keep general prices artificially high. If I understand this correctly..

Juicy….

Not juicy... This is not the great conspiracy. The fix isn't in, the sky isn't falling. No one is selling Busse's from the grassy knoll. With the occasional exception of someone buying back a knife they regret selling, I don't see "back & forth selling" with the intent of keeping prices "fixed". Deals are out there. Trust no one. Do your research.

I want to believe... ;)

But, you told us not to trust anyone now you telling us that there's deals out there!?!

PARADOX!!! HEAD....ABOUT....TO......EXXXXPLODE!!!! :D

I don't think it's possible to "inflate value" in the manner you suggest. The value is what it is. The aftermarket may increase the price, in recognition of higher perceived value than the original price.

Lemme revise my previous statement... Trust no one but me! ;)

Someone snagged a rare EU handled Uncle Mofo (saber grind) for $500... if you ask me, that's a STEAL!

Prices are fine if you know what you're looking for.

I would not buy from or sell to a price gouger/knife flipper, and neither should anyone else. Only dealing with upstanding people is a good rule of thumb.

As has been said. I have seen the same knives in the same condition sell for more than 1/3 more on the same afternoon! Literally. In fact the first knife that sold for less, had two professional sheaths, and the second knife came with no sheaths.

Plenty of examples. This can mean one of two things. Some one got a real steal of a deal on steel!

Or one knife is overpriced (or it could be a little of both).

The real key is that you watch the exchange, and be ready to pounce!!!!!

Nothing to be confused about Newbknife13  The market sets the price, if ya cant afford it or dont like the price, dont buy it and wait til a better deal comes along, better be quick though. Dont expect to pay less then original price (esp with a $60 sheath) with models that are out of normal production. Use the Busse Collector site to get familiar with the original pricing if you havnt already, helpful resource fosho.

I have been watching the XC here for a year and have NEVER pay "to much" for a knife I wanted.
I have also had some AWESOME deals.
For example I just scored a BOSS Street, slightly used with a Mashed Cat sheath and Lg TekLok for $50 LESS than they originally sold for.
Keep your eyes open, view and refresh the XC LOTS and keep your "I'll take it" fingers ready.
