Can someone give me an insight as to what exactly is BW Damascus. I know that CRK made two types of high carbon Damascus, one is H/C High Contrast and the other BW Black and White. What is the difference between the two? Thanks in Advance
Good question I have a small sebenza and the card inside the box says Devin Thomas Damascus H/C ladder
The label on the outside of the box says B & W Damascus Ladder
All I know it is not stainless steel Damascus.
I have a small regular sebenza with BW ladder Damascus and the blade feels like sand paper to the touch. I just received a knife from Lisa that is also BW and once again sandpaper s to the touch. The HC is smoother than BW when you run your finger back and forth the side of the blade. I know that Devin Thomas has different steel combinations for his High Carbon blades, just wondering if anyone knows the difference between Black/White and High Contrast.
Stainless Damascus
Materials Used: AEB - L and 304
Comments: This steel cuts very well. There are makers in Alaska that prefer this steel over all others! Properly heat treated this is a very good steel. This steel has a fairly good contrast between materials. It is easy to etch.
High Contrast Damascus
Materials Used: O1 or 19C5VA and Nickel
Comments: This steel has stunning contrast when etched or blued. Available in larger sizes in twist pattern over stainless
Double High Carbon Damascus
Materials Used: O1 or 19C5VA & 15N20 (2% Nickel high carbon steel)
Comments: This steel is made from high carbon steels
This steel has excellent edge holding properties
This steel has very good contrast between materials
This is our most expensive and collectible steel
I believe that BW is the third one, Double High Carbon Damascus, I will confirm on Monday. If my theory is correct than Lisa's Blue Damascus Sebenza's are all HC (High Contrast). Is that Correct Lisa, are the Blue Damascus Sebbie's HC Damascus?
I just looked on the birth cards and they say Blued Damascus, but by the research you did, it seems logical that they are HC Damascus...there just isn't any "HC" designation.
