I'm relatively new to this forum and I've picked up a lot of good information already, but maybe somebody can tell me what model/models I should be looking for.
As I said in my first post,I've been carrying the 34OT for many years. However, for skinning small game and small furbeares,I prefer the pen blade.Did Schrade ever make a 3-blade folder about 3-4" long with a master clip.pen, and (spey or sheepsfoot) blades in carbon steel?
Thanks,fella's!
Ron

Take a look at the pictures I just posted for Penney over in the 165 thread. Bottom right on the 1st pict is a 58OT. Blade configuration is what you wanted and its about the same size at the 34. The 897UH is a bit bigger and also has the same blades your looking for.
Hope that helps

Love those 897's, but they are stainless. With clip, spey and sheepfoot like the 58OT. The same with the 896K. The 72OT dogleg jack is 2 7/8" and has one clip and one pen. The 33OT Middleman Jack is the same size as the 34OT and has just two blades, a clip and pen. The little 104OT Minuteman with 2 3/4" length has a clip and pen, and the 108OT adds a third blade, the sheepfoot. That is all the OT's I can think of right now with pen blades. Schrade did make open stock knives with pen blades though. You might look at those, but you might also find a trapper version more to your liking. They have been favorites of small game hunters for many years.

Thank you both for the info.
That lady sure has some nice knives.
Now I have a couple model #'s,I wont have to wade thru all those eBay ads.
I don't have any experience with Schrade's stainless blades but I've had some Case stainless that took more time to restore an edge than their old high carbon steel blades did. That's why I switched to Schrade's back in the late 70's.I have a tendency to use my "carry knife" to cut anything that needs cutting,so I like the carbon steel. You can restore an edge easily with some 240X AlumOxide paper and a Washita stone.
I have a new 104OT that I found a the local Kmart about 3 weeks ago.I've also found that as you get older and your fingers are stiffer, you appreciate a larger knife than you did previously.

I have been using an 897UH as an EDC for quite a few years now, and you would not believe what I put them through. I also prefer 1095 HC in my hunting blades, but my 897 gets a real workout in my construction business, and a daily sharpening with a fine diamond hone, then a bit of stropping keeps it in fine shape without excessively removing metal. They were made for many years and are pretty common right now, so you can pick up a new or near mint one for chicken feed. My chicken feed bill is about $15-20 a week, so the analogy is pretty close. With the blade selection of Turkish clip, spey, and sheepfoot, it easily handles most tasks, and is large enough to not get lost in my pocket, but small enough to not overly excite any ladies who might pass by (veiled reference to an old Mae West line).

I hope we have been of some help. A handy Schrade reference book would help more. I have a lot of mine nearly memorized, but still double check myself because my wife claims I make mistakes, and that has shaken my self confidence. Who knows, someday she may be right! That means I need to get another good reference book (Levine's #4 I think).

I find the old Schrade catalogs & price lists make a good reference, but are limited to a single year. If a person compiles them that helps.
There was a thread where 2 or 3 people listed the different models of Schrades. I can't seem to find the thread right now. Anyway I put them all on a spread sheet & that really helps me.

I added a few that I knew about, but I am SURE the list is not all inclusive. It might be a good place to start though. If anyone has some to add please feel free. I for one would find it helpful. LT, Codger, Irv, anyone else, please feel free to correct/add to/ delete from ect. this list. I am not an authority, that is why I found the list helpful.
The list doesn't include any of the newer (less traditional stuff) like the XT series, Cliphangers, SX, SS, SP or SQ series, ect.

Hope this is helpful,
Dale

Thanks Dale. I started doing that and worked my fingers to the bone. Then I found...duh! Robert Clemente did all that! He went further too, and wrote a book on the compilation of the Schrade catalogs. It is the first resource I recommend to new (and increasingly serious) collectors interested in the OT and UH lines. His contact info is back in the Gulf Coast Assistance thread. Someone will fetch it forward by link if you can't find it.

Codger

A question for those more knowledgeable than I; Did Schrade ever male a 91OT? Somewhere I got that number and am not sure if it is a good number. I have not been able to find anything on it.
LT, Codger, Irv, anyone????

Orvet,
Aint seen a 91OT.
How about a 19OT. We talked about them and the 512OT's as well.

Nice list.

Gonna add the UH's?

TTYL
Larry

Thanks Irv.
Yes, I want to add the UH.
Right now I am working on the other stuff in the price lists I have, which are the 2002 & 2004. I have quite a few knives that aren't in either of those price lists & I am adding those as well. Of course I keep running into things that don't seem to fit, especially some of the stuff that has appeared since the close of Schrade. I am with Codger on that non-typical stuff, I find it to be quite interesting.
I would also like to put together a list of the Imperial stuff as well and a list of tools.
I am sure this will take me quite a while to do. If anyone has price lists they would like to share (other than 2002 & 2004) they can scan them & send them to me at dalervincent@comcast.net . I would like to put together the most complete list we can get for our use here on the forum. With a price list I can also include the MSRP of the knife, something I am adding into the list I already have.

I hesitated to include the price on the first list as some ebay seller might start raising the asking price on some of their auctions.
Do you think it is advisable to post the prices?
Feed back on this issue anyone?

Thanks,Codger - for your insight and comments.I guess I'll probably get Clemente's book and end up hooked deeper! Did your daughter get you another test specimen ?
As I remember, bear make better test specimens than deer. The hide is tougher and the hair usually has embedded sand/dirt that really takes the edge off a knife.Skinning out the paws and ears really test a guy's patience.
Thankfully, the opportunity only comes every 15-20 years.
Beaver is another toughie on an edge, have to cut all the way instead of peeling most of it.

Orvet,
Thanks for the list! Sure will save me some time!

Ron

OK, here is what I have come up with for model numbers & description as best as I could get it. I used the Schrade 2002 & 2004 price lists & the 1999 catelog for the some of the model numbers & descriptions. I didn't get any feed back about listing the retail price (for those 2 years) so I left it off.
This list is far from definitive! Please feel free to add to/take from it as you find new info.
Thanks,
Dale

How about adding the LB 1,2,3, and 4?

Where did you find a reference to the XT4? Have you seen a picture of it?

The XT4 was a cataloged item not produced. There are several more that never saw production. And protos have not been seen either that I know of.

Redshanks,
All I know about the XT4 and the SPF1LTD came from the 2004 price list. I will email you a picture of both and maybe you can post it.
I will add the 707UH to the list. That is a nice little knife. I like it! I just got a 106OT the other day. It is nice too, but the Uncle Henry is much nicer.

I have no reference to them in my limited library. If you can get me some info on them I will add them to my post.

Thanks,
Dale
