Either a copy of a western, or the stacked leather fell apart and it was replaced with wood.

Could it be a very used Case XX?, is there is still some gimping left on the thumb ramp? It looks like the rear of the handle is made of aluminum...Ill search for a pic....

Nope.........I think Hickory n steel is right..... This is labeled a #39 Western its getting closer to what you have there .....

Nope.........I think Hickory n steel is right! Check this out, its a #39 Western its getting closer to what you have there.....

It definitely has that distinct western pommel, so if it's not a western #39 with replaced handles and sheath then it's likely an old made in Japan copy.

Western knives are great, does your knife have any sort of tang stamp on the blade ?
If it doesn't say western on it anywhere and doesn't appear to have been sanded or ground down ( ways one could be gone ) then it's not a western and is likely a copy from Japan and may not me that great.
