Info on a granddaddy barlow needed

with clear photographs........300

I will give it the best I can, but something tells me you will be sitting at home saying something along the lines of, "he should have had more light, or there's to much reflection it this one".

I hope this tread isn't getting tired. I used my caliper and measured the two different blades ( the blade on my granddaddy barlow and the prototype GD barlow and they were the same thickness, 3mm at the blade stamp area of the blade. I used a 30 power loop and looked at the stamps. You can tell that the BUCK USA stamps were all done by the same machine. They all left a raised area at the bottom of the U in BUCK, and a flat edge on the top of the USA.

I did notice that the handle pins along with the spring pin, were all brass, on the Prototype and the spring pin and the bottom handle pin was SS on the other one. All in all its a nice addition to my collection and I am happy to have it.

The plot thickens.......suspense is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

:)

Perhaps it's time to contact somebody from the Camillus Collector's Forum?

Interesting about the etching. But I don't think it devalues your prototype knife at all. You still were 99% correct all along....
Will need to remember that seller.....300

I doubt he will respond, but I sent him a message asking if he was the person who engraved the word Prototype on the blade. I insured him in the message that I had no intention on returning the knife. I said that the knife has many attributed that pointed to the fact it was a prototype without the engraving and that everything was explained except that. I figure he wont answer at all but it was worth a try. I still think this knife is probably one of the coolest knives I own and will be able to tell the story for many years to come.

Looks like you just busted Mr. Parker, Tin Sue.

I suppose there exists the possibility that he bought those two knives from the same guy and THAT person was responsible for both engravings......

But it sure doesn't look good for the Silver Laddie.

I wonder if Matt could get that engraving removed without damaging the blade?

I did contemplate removing the engraving, and I did contact James Parker, who denied everything. Even when I asked about the Case knife. I posted in wine and cheese but I think I may have posted in the wrong area, and it should have gone in feedback. I spoke with a fellow who said he worked in the Factory Sample Shop for Camillus and he said that they never engraved the blades, and if they did that style of script wasn't the one used. The engraving isnt very deep and I will see if Leroy can remove it without damaging it.
