this maker is on my to buy list, great knives, awesome choices of steel an designs, very nice sheath work,an at a really good price range..but i keep missing the good knives he post...i just wanted to know if anyone tested or use his knives an if you could give me your honest opinions on his blades,an work..for those that dont know me i am a hog hunter, outdoorsman so knife will be used for that task..you can post or P.M me...i will get one Oleg:thumbup:..aloha

I picked up one of Oleg's knives a couple of months back. The carbon fiber handle is nicely sculpted and very confortable in my larger than average hands. The blade still shows machining marks which is no big deal on a working knife, at least for me. The original edge was adequate, but not up to my personal standards (very few are), but once I put my edge on it, it has held up quite well. The sheath is well made and retains the knife well without making drawing the knife a major struggle. Altogether I'm very happy with it, and consider it a steal at the price.

I was not overly happy with my purchase, but did not return it. Rough finish with many scratch marks, fairly obtuse edge, and the neck knife had the worst sheath I've ever received from a maker. Took a couple of emails to get a response, he did offer to remake the sheath. In testing on cardboard the knives cut fairly well. I have not taken them to task in the woods, but we did discuss replacement options if they failed in use so his communication did improve once I got him to respond. Very fast shipping, everything was secure in the package.

If blade finish is important to you ask for closer pics without the active colored backgrounds he uses, often when looking closely at his pictures I note that they are not finished to the level I would be happy with. He does utilize many designs and handle treatments as well.

Just my observations and a purchase early last year I believe. I hope his quality has improved as well as his communication.

I had a good sale; the price was right, the shipping was fast and the pics represented what I received. The knife I purchased is a user which has been somewhat abused without issue.

For the steels he uses, his prices are difficult to beat. There will be machining marks left over, so don't expect a perfect finish on your knife. His sheaths are the worst I've ever seen--they are adequate for the job, but of pretty low quality. English doesn't appear to be his first language, but he does reply to emails.

I have a CPM 154 knife from him that I would probably expected to have paid nearly twice as much had I gotten it from another knife maker. I'm pretty pleased with his prices.

With a little effort on your part you could re-sharpen/re-bevel the knife to your own standard; I've also polished the blade. If you are looking for a very good user knife (and aren't overly concerned with finish) then I'd say go for it. I would perhaps suggest seeing if you can buy the knife without a sheath to lower the cost, then have another sheath maker build you some custom kydex.
