Info on Buck 111? (not the aluminum one)

Somehow these knives weren't on my radar until a few weeks ago. I was wondering when they started making them and when they stopped. I did searches online but found few references to them. I just ordered one from NewGraham and am eagerly waiting for its arrival. Does anyone have any historical info about this model?

This was on another thread, but my search brings up a variety of things but what I was looking for.

Buck developed the 111 for the smaller stores as the larger chains and box stores were getting the 110. The 111s were a little more special to justify the higher price. (Small stores can't compete in price with the larger chains that buy in bulk.)

Consumers, however, looked at the 111 as being another 110, so the concept didn't work well enough for Buck to continue with it.

Details on dates, years, variants, etc. are in the old catalogs. Others here may be able to pin that down a bit.

The standard 111 never showed up in any catalog as far as I can see or have been able to find out. The only ones I have ever found in the catalogs were LE's.

I've asked about these several times (they are my favorite 110 size) Buck. I did get some info from a Buck rep. which I printed out. If I can find that, I'll scan and post the info.

Hi Stelth,

There have been some very nice 111 LE/SO's made over the years, Ironwood, stag, Rattle Snake, ect. Maybe you can get some of the folks to post some photo's!

OOPs, the ironwood one is a 110. I'll have to find the pictures of my ironwood 111's.

I only have one 111 right now, a Classic (aluminum frame) three-dot which I assume is the very first year of production with 440C steel.

I have coming a stag 111, a BCCI members-only from 2007. Before I placed my order about a week ago, John told me there were only 4 left out of 500. These are available to new BCCI members. My order would have reduced the number to 3.

This is a lousy picture of it, but it's the top one. A really cool knife.

FYI, some of the 111's that are getting sold on ebay say they are IW but are just standard wood, buyer beware.

I've never bidded on Ebay. I ordered mine through NewGraham Knives. They have a brick-and-mortar store in Bluefield VA. This will be my 3rd order from them and they've been great so far.

Nice knives, JB4570!

Good to hear you have your Ironwood 111 coming from a reputable store. That Ironwood 111 is one of my favorite limited edition knives, and Stelth the photo's don't do them justice! Post some photo's of yours when you have it in hand.

jb4570 There is something about that "Rattle Snake 111" I think it is my favorite 111 anybody shows on here.

Nice 111:thumbup:

Thanks LB,

I got that one from a dealer on ebay who sells a lot of custom Buck's. That Rattle Snake 111 is a Michael Prater Proto. I sent MP a message at his shop to get him to do a custom 55 just like the 111, he never even replied:mad::thumbdn:.
Needless to say my first and last MP custom!
