Info on Buck 111? (not the aluminum one)

I've never bidded on Ebay. I ordered mine through NewGraham Knives. They have a brick-and-mortar store in Bluefield VA. This will be my 3rd order from them and they've been great so far.

Nice knives, JB4570!

Oh man. If this is the one you have coming, I'm afraid that New Graham has those that, like jb4570 said, were not really ironwood. There's a thread somewhere in the archives about how the boxes were marked wrong. This is the only 111 that New Graham has on their web site and it's not ironwood.

Really? The price did seem really low for a premium wood. I'll guess I'll know for sure in a few days.

I'm afraid so, unless they are using the wrong picture. I went to their website and if they really were ironwood, at that price, I'd clean them out.

Take a good look at the middle knife in post #7 and the one in post #11. Those are real ironwood and look nothing like the one in New Graghms picture.

It's still a good price for a 111, they aren't that easy to find these days.

Hi Stelth & Dave,
I sent NG an email to see what they have to say about their misleading 111 information. It will be interesting to see what this store has to say about the material used on this knife.

They may not even know that the knives aren't ironwood. I know, but can't find it right now, that it came out that Buck shipped out a bunch of regular 111's in boxes marked as ironwood. Many of the sellers of those had no idea they weren't what the box said they were.

That's what I concluded. I've seen them a lot higher on different sites. It's a little disappointing but I'll get over it.

& JB, thanks for questioning NG about it.

Dave,

A small ebay seller I can see not knowing. However, that NG site sells a lot of knives, so they should know the difference and if they claim the 5th, now they will know and we'll all see if they change what's on their site. Are they honest or not? Time and actions will tell. I also remember the incorrect box labeling, Buck used old box's left over from the IW LE.

Stelth,
That is still a very good price for any 111 and it will be a sweet knife, even if it's not Ironwood.

Good point. I'll be interested in hearing how they react. I've had sellers tell me to go pound sand when I tried to correct them about something.

Those boxes should have never left the factory with an ironwood label on them. Instead of using the old labels they could have printed new labels and put them on the boxes. I think that was a mistake by Buck.

I agree. If incorrectly labeled knives were sent, out it's Buck's responsibility to rectify it.

The folks who ordered these knives places orders for standard run of the mill 111's. They did not place orders for LE's with Ironwood at big $$$$$. If your in the retail or resale buisness you need to know what you are doing and selling! Buck is in no way responsible to rectify a thing.

NG sent me this reply today:
"Thank You for pointing this out. You are right this is not Ironwood. The box is actually labeled wrong but we did make the correction."
Thanks

So it sounds like they were aware of the issue and as a reputable business corrected their on-line information. I would suggest if you are not happy with the 111 knife (not Ironwood) contact NG with your complaint. I would say that for the price that is a very good deal on a discontinued knife. I say NG gets the  for being an honest store.

I bought a couple of those last year. Yes, the label is for Ironwood, but they were just regular 111s with nice brown leather sheaths. I have one to carry, and left the other one in the box.

Maybe one day, we'll get extra $$$ when we sell the mis-labeled boxes...;)

I received the 111 today and even thought it's not ironwood, I really like it. (NG is really fast, I ordered it at 4:45 PM on Monday via the USPS) The blade profile is a little different than my 110. It seems a little wider at the point. I assumed the weight would be the same but it is noticably lighter than the 110. As some have said here, the nickel silver scratches easily. I already have a very faint scratch just from putting it in my back pocket. I guess I'll be carrying it in the soft nylon case I picked up when I worked at Oshman's years ago.

Stelth,

Thanks for the photo's. Who did the custom work on the 112?

I don't know if it's custom work or vandalism. I did it myself with a chainsaw file. That 112 is my beater but it's one of my favorites. I carry it all the time now.
