info on strider knives

I am new here....but i have 5 striders.1 sng and 1 tac ar.3 fixed.All are bomb proof.I also have a small seb.(which is great!)and a couple of busse knives.You can't go wrong w/ a strider!!

quick question, who exactly makes the knives at strider? Are the parts cut on a CNC machine and then hand assembled? Or are they all completely done by hand? Also whose on the crew over there besides mick and duane? Thanks

I have been lurking for a year. This place is awesome!I have a ton of knives(at least i think so!)Some high end....some....well not very expensive!!!!

Thanks for the welcome!!!

I know that they use CNC and wire EDM on some of their stuff like the framelocks.

To change the subject a little, after learning how to and then disassembling my Sebenzas a few weeks ago, i began to itch to take apart another folder, i was a little intimadated since most of my folders arent cheap, but, i decided to try to take my SnG apart.

Well, let me say, its easier than taking the Sebenza apart! To me, the ability to take a knife fully apart, to clean and properly lube it periodically is one of the best features a knife can have and im glad to see that the SnG is one such knife. If you have one, but havent yet taken it apart, it is EASY. Email me and ill tell you how to do it. The AR unfortunately appears to have a more difficult to remove pivot pin on one side. SO, should i go try to take a Carson apart now? :)

Once you have a tool to handle that pivot on the AR, its also easy.

Sure take a carson apart, but dont try a duncan or a chew!

I have two Strider fixed blade knives, and love them dearly. The WP, which has a 3.25" tiger-striped blade in S30V and the MFS, which has a 4" tiger-striped blade in ATS-34.

They're so concealable that I don't really have the urge to part with $400 to buy one of their folders. I do plan on getting some more fixed blades from them, though! They're second to none.:)

I can easily conceal a BT (12" FB) but it isn't legal for me to do so in the communist country where I live, hence my need for a folder.

kinfedaddy,

IIRC, there are 4 different styles of SnG (the all black is one, I can't accurately describe the other 3). In each syle, the 1st 100 are numbered x of 100. After that, they are not numbered. However, I believe all Striders do have a serial number. The serial number could tell you exactly when yours was made. If you ever send your knife to the Strider shop, maybe ask 'em to tell you when your knife was made :)

The first run of SnG's, had black/green G10, tiger striped blades and the very neat colored Ti handles, spearpoints had "dimples", tantos for the most part didnt. There were 100 tantos and 100 spearpoints that were numbered 1 to 100, excluding any prototypes or one offs. Then came the second generation, these had black G10 on one side, and the Ti side and blade were stonewashed. Also 100 of each blade type, numbered 1 to 100. The current generation is the black version, same deal as above. Of course we are now seeing a few unnumbered variants trickle out, like black G10 handles with striped blades and similar, but i dont think theyre numbered.

I have always liked my SnG, but now that i know how to take it apart to clean and lube it, i like it even more. Like i have been saying, if you get a good one, the Striders are very good knives, i just wish it was easier to get a good one. This is why i generally like to examine a Strider in person before i buy it, or at least ask very specific questions of the seller, like, is the blade centered, is there ANY blade play, where does the lock engage, is the ball detent strong etc...

I have no problems with their fixed blades, which are well made, i just think they need better knife to knife consistancy on their folders, and the black SnGs do seem better than the previous 2 versions. To be fair, i have seen these issues on many custom knives, and from some of the top makers, so, this isnt unique to Strider, but i do think they still let too many slip by, a higher percentage than should be the case.

Think about it, every time you hear someone in a forum say: "Strider's warrantee rocks!" well, thats someone who just had to send their knife in for repair probably. The warrantee is great, but you shouldnt need it so often. A lot of brand new SnGs went back to Strider for various reasons. But, as i said, the new black ones seem better and hopefully this trend will continue.

I agree. Please think about folks living other than in USA, where shipping/re-shipping takes a lot of time and money.

Yes, same here. Unfortunately, we are just a small market.

spyken,

IIRC means if I remember correctly. IMHO is in my honest opinion. BTTT is back to the top (used in the for sale forums a lot!), BUTT is back up to top (used because BUTT is funnier than BTTT), YMMV is something mike your mind might vary.

Dont forget ROTFLMAO and its variant ROTFLMAOWTNTP... :)

2 other useful ones are TTYL, talk to you later... and AFAIK, as far as i know...

BTTT is of course back to the top...

Edited to add, Crayola, i think IMHO is in my HUMBLE opinion and the similar, somewhat arrogant, IMNSHO... in my NOT so humble opinion...could be wrong though, IMNSHO, Well TTYL and of course, YMMV... :)

Thanks, I've got one of the new black ones and it rocks. This has been mentioned before...but why-oh-why does the blade, when closed, bisect the lanyard hole? I mean I'm no knifemaker, but make the handle a hair longer or the blade a hair shorter...don't you think?

I believe Mick said u just thread one hole...there is a reason for why they did that...I can't remember off hand exactly why but you could check USN and find out.
