Batangas made knives only stay new for a few weeks or maybe a month after they make them. Brass is a high maintance knife material. Also, the blades are not stainless, so they do tend to tarnish. Both Taylor and Parker were importing them from the Philippines about 12 to 15 years ago. I can not remember which one of them was putting them in those boxes.

I have seen them sell in the $80 to $120 range. The price seems to be going up pretty fast on them. Perhaps the days of getting them for under $100 are over with. If you got someone like Sabo to buff it out for you, and put a nice finish on it, that could raise it's value as much as 50%. Otherwise, a little bit of polish would help.

Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

It seems to me that KniveZilla used to carry these knives up until mid-year 2000. Then they had trouble with the manufacturer or at least that is what I was told. $100-120.

I have also viewed collections on the net that had several so I wouldn't feel comfortable giving a time frame.

Yeah, If it has hammer marks or the raw material scratches that plague the HMF's, I can surely buff them out. You might want to check with the powers that be to see if it is deemed appropriate for a collectable knife.

With the box and the sheath, I have found that type of HMF very hard to come by these days other than Balisong.com and they do not offer the box and sheath.

Kind regards,

I have over 30 years of experance in the renovation and restoration business. They say all sort of things, but the truth is, people want it old, but they want it in new or top condition. I had a Case Knife made during the depression, that tripled in value after I sent it back to Case and they restored it (free of charge) Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

I remember when these were all over the place
in the early eighties. They were imported by Guttman Cutlery. I remember once looking thru half a dozen at a store before I found one that was in good shape. But when you found one they were really nice. If you look on Gollnicks marketwatch page you'll see one listed under Guttman Cutlery selling for 89 bucks in Oct.99.
When they were readily available they weren't big sellers in my area because stouter Japanese made butteflys were around and actually cheaper at times.
I notice you have no email listed inyour profile. If you're asking because you want to sell it email me.

I agree, this is a great place to voice an opinion, ask a question, share a new technique, whatever. BFC, or particularly the BS forum is usually more hospitable and tolerant to everyone and everything in general.
