I have a knife that I am hoping someone might be able to enlighten me on. I'd love to know what type of knife it is, it's intended use, it's value, and any info that someone might have to share. It is made by Hoffritz in Germany. It is a two blade knife and measures 5-1/2" when closed. With the main blade open it measures 10" in length, and with the small knife on the end open the total length would be 11-3/4". The widest part of the main blade is 3/8" wide and the case is 1/2" wide when the knives are not extended. I am not sure what the cream colored handle is made of and there appears to be almost tone on tone pale stripes across it's length. The blades are hand forged stainless steel. I think that the case pins are made from brass. The cap end of the knife looks to be silver, although I am not 100% positive. Is there a way that I can post pictures of it so that it might be more easily identified? Thank you for your help! Nancy
I tried to insert a picture as it shows here but have no clue how this is done! Please help!

Nancy,
Welcome to the forums. You will probably be better off asking about your knife over on the "The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum".

You can read about using vB code for posting pictures here .
The easiest way I have found to do it is to upload your picture at http://tinypic.com/. After you have uploaded it, you will see"*Successfully Hosted!" and they give you three windows: Url, Tag, and Img. Copy the entire field from the Img box (it has the correct vB code included) and just paste it into the text of your message.

Regards,
Greg

Looks like a melon knife to me (designed/used for cutting up watermelons and stuff), although I'm not sure about the smaller blade

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone for your kindness in taking the time to answer! This is a wonderful forum, I am glad I found you!

What a trip, I have one very similar to yours, the only difference being that mine also has a serrated blade similar to the non-serrated one, and the NS bolsters are not filed on mine. It has the little fork as well, and the same celluloid handles. It's a nice knife! Probably the classiest melon knife I've seen. I've had mine for about 15 years, I think I paid in the neighborhood of $40 for it when Parker Cuttlery stores were going out of business. Nice to see this, it's the only other one I've ever seen.

Thanks ddavelarson.....I asked this question in another forum too.....so far several people have said it is probably a fruit knife, however one mentioned that this type has been popular as a makeshift dirk .and interestingly enough, the original owner was a labor lawyer many moons ago and worked with the Teamsters, Butchers Union, etc., knew Jimmy Hoffa among others. It is suspected that he received this knife as a gift from one of these folks and that it looked to be the kind of knife one would use for stabbing or throat slitting. Thanks, Nancy
