I'm looking at one with a blade and handle made of 1095 at an RC of 48-50. While I'm sure it will be durable at this hardness, would it hold an edge worth sh*t??? Please let me know!
Since no one else has jump in here I will give it a crack. 1095 will give you ok durability at 48-50 although your edge retention will be horribly lacking. If you can stand to take it up just a couple of points to the 50-52 range you will get the best of both worlds. You will still get good durability with decent edge holding ability. At this RC you will also roll the edge before you chip it. Hope that helps.
Maybe I'll just order a Ranger Tomahawk. I love the design, and the price is great. I just really would like to find a integral handle/head model. RMJ makes them, but I don't want to pay 400 dollars and wait another year. Thanks for the info, Justin.
Glad you like the design. I have a couple of flat stock hawks in the works so if you want to shot me an email maybe we can work something out. Thanks again and I hope the info helped.
