Well, our little Hammer-In is over and a great time was had by all. Due to all Pete's idea and hard work everything went off smoothly. Weather was great and all the guys were typically good knifemaking guys. 6 of us counting me, the Host, were here and everyone got lots of Hammerin in. 3 of the guys hammered out some nice blades while Pete was squishing Damascus. His little home built press did good. Slow, but sure beats hand hammering. We mixed some of my 1084 with Pete's 15n20, 14 layers welded, squished restacked, squished again stacked again and again. Over 200 layers I believe. Everyone went home with a piece around 1/2"X 2"X 3 1/2" or so.
Thanks to Pete's "Brats" and my wife's salad, lunch was a nice break and a chance to discuss fixing the world. My new little Weber Barbeque worked great.
Sure enjoyed meeting all the guys. Thanks for coming up. I learned a lot and believe we all did. Sounds like this is going to be the beginning of a regular event in the Central Calif. area. I would be happy to Host again and some of the others have expressed their desire to Host. Whatever, I'll be there. Nice to see it beginning on the West Coast. I've been jealous of all the activity in the East.

Ken

Fixed it. Sorry, I got my 5's mixed up:confused:

Did you get a chance to forge that little billet out?

Just wanted to say thanks to oldwolf for hosting it. Thanks to Pete for all his hard work and sending everyone home with a piece of damascus. I am going to hold on to it until I have a little more confidence at the anvil. It was fun and I learned a lot. Hope to do it again sometime.

that is just awsome you guys. Wish I could've been there. maybe next year I'll have a little vacation time saved up.

I had a great time. Thank you everyone, especially Ken for hosting and Pete for the damascus. I learned a whole lot and I look forward to meeting up with you guys again. Thanks!

By the way, did everyone survive the speed trap on I-80? I only slid by because some guy was passing me going 80mph instead of my 77mph and he got nailed. Whew.

Same here, my heart skipped a beat when I came around that curve and saw I was getting clocked. Everyone on that road was haulin'.
