Informal neck knife poll

i'm not really a fan of neckers, when i carry one it is usually with a figure 8 paracord rig with the knife under my armpit. this is much more comfortable for me.

I'm with siguy on this...sometimes around camp, I'll wear a neck knife, but if I've been using a the MercHarness (same idea as a parachord figure-eight) with a Fallkniven WM1.

If wearing a neck knife, I like the flatter profile (I'm too lazy to pull up dimensions:D)

That Koyote necker is really cool-looking. Are you sure it's not a full-size cleaver though? BIG pic!

It's about the size I was talking about. Small enough to grip wit a few fingers, but unobtrusive around the neck.

This is a pre-production model and Dylside made the sheath for me..the pink really stands out against all types of background to help with NOT losing you knife...

Hey there.

IMO i think the Becker Necker and RAT Izula is THE ideal kneck (hehe) knife. I know i am not posting specs, but i think most know the knives

Yeah, I agree. Along with Fred Perrin LaGriffes, which are more self-defense in nature but can be pressed into service for anything reasonable.

The neckers in this thread are beautiful, too.

If they made a QUALITY version of this knife I would be all over it!!!===>

I love the feel and weight of it
The metal seems kinda brittle though
Maybe a high carbon steel version would be awesome....

I actually use this knife a lot and it only cost like 20 bucks

Also
If they made the Buck Hartshook neck knife a little bigger it would be better

I have about 20 or so of this exact knife without the Smith and Wesson--I love the whole design (except I am not big on the tanto blade) but they have CHEAP CHEAP steel. If anyone wants one I'll send one to you for the cost of shipping + paypal fees so approx $5.

I originally bought them to sell on Ebay, but they didn't go, so they have just been sitting around.

just email me at knivesshipfree at gmail dot com if you want one.

so far i'm still on the hunt for the perfect neck knife...:o

so far the 2 runner ups are: the little creek, it's such a great little knife... i also loved the Izula when i got a chance to handle when of the proto's... i may need to pick one up at some point...

I currently wear a Spyderco Perrin Street Beat as a neck knife while hiking.

For me It's the right size, weight and ergos.

length overall 7 3/16" (183mm)
blade length 3 1/2" (89mm)
blade steel VG-10
cutting edge 3 1/4" (83mm)
weight 3.2oz (92g)
blade thickness 5/32" (4mm)
handle material Micarta

But I like the looks of that RAT Izula.

Hey Tony don't give me the pink stands out bulls*it, it's ok to be who ever you are nowdays !!!!:D

For me my perfect necker is my Swampwarden which I wear most days and forget it's even there. Thin, light, low profile, great steel.

I'm another one who just doesn't like "neck" knives. Can't have anything around my neck, it just doesn't feel right. And a lot of my work, around the farm and equipment, stuff hanging loose is just asking for injury.

That being said, I do like knives in the "neck knife" size range. 6" max, and I like to carry them in my pocket. My Izula proto is pretty nice, but with the 3/16" thickness and saber grind it's not really a great cutter. I'll pick up one of the production ones sometime in the near future.

I'd really like a pocket wharny too :D That's becoming a favorite blade shape for me.

it's possible to do both.

a lace on pocket clip works out well.

I've found that you get used to a necker, but agree that sometimes it's not appropriate for a situation. My main issue personally, though, is with really BIG neckers. The little ones I can tuck into my shirt without hardly noticing them, as long as it's a well rounded leather sheath. The kydex seems to get scratchy

The perfect neck knife for me would be a AG Russell Woodswalker in a slightly thicker carbon steel. It is small enough that you don't even realize your wearing it. I think 1/8" might be to thick maybe 3/32" with Orange G10 Scales.

1. Overall length: between 6 and 7 inches
2. Blade Length and handle length: blade 2-3" handle 3-4"
3. Blade thickness and width: around 1/8", maybe a little more, width around 1"
4. Blade shape: preferably drop point
5. Any other desireable features such as steel, sheath, etc.: steel is anything good, I like a sheath thats useful and with a good fit(obviously)
6. Grind: flat
I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Izula!!!

Either my Gossman PSK or the AG Russell Woodswalker. In winter, with heavy clothing on, I'll use my Fallkniven F1 as a neck knife too. It's not heavy and I dont notice it. It's easier than trying to get to my belt knife with a coat and sweater on.

1. Overall length
2. Blade Length and handle length
3. Blade thickness and width
4. Blade shape
5. Any other desireable features such as steel, sheath, etc.

1. 6.5"
2. 3 and 3.5
3. 1/8th " and 1"
4. spear/drop
5. Overall weight can be an issue.

This is basically my list, in reality. I had Scott Gossman make it to the above specs.
