Update 2: Found another one

I was talking to my dad today and randomly the topic of Busse knives came up. My family is from the same town as Jerry and my dad worked with him many years ago, think mid to late 1980s (If Jerry reads this do you remember someone with the initials DW who had a big red machine shop?). While working together my dad acquired some knives from Jerry. Is there a good resource to learn about knives from that era? He has somewhere between 5-10 knives and next time I go over to their house I’m going to grab some pictures. My dad is a hobby knife maker so any information I can get about the old knives would be very interesting. Thanks for any info you may have!

You can post pics. But for values it will require Gold level membership.

Thank you! We’re not so much interested in value as just sharing what may be unique, old Busse knives. I’m not sure if these are production knives or one off’s. I’m not sure what the production levels were at this time so these may be common and old news to you guys!

Some of them look like field grade. Very nice collection. Thank you for sharing.

I think the first one is an old silent knight.

Thanks for your thoughts! I know almost nothing about knives so by “field grade” do you mean to be used instead of displayed? I’m in contact with Jerry and we’re hoping to meet up so he can get these knives in front of him again.

Yes, they were ment to be used. Some of his hunter/field knives. Were marked field grade.

Thank you for all the comments everyone! I’ll be sharing these with my dad so he can see what nice things you all have said. However he may see the value of having these in the hands of Busse collectors and pass them on. I’ll keep everyone posted.

I will also share any stories or info we get from Jerry once we can meet up and talk about these old things.

I do have a couple of questions.

What is a SAR?
Is the SAR “ancestor” the same knife that luethge picked out in his post?
