Hi guys, I have a couple of questions for some of you more knowledgeable forumites. First some backround, I have a 19" AK and a 15" BAS. The AK is a great chopper and is heavy duty; the BAS is 'lightweight' and great for cutting, slicing and smaller tasks. I want to get something in between for general duty or when it would be inconvienient to carry the other two. At first I thought a 16.5" WWII; but after looking through the HI website the Bhudhini caught my eye. It looks very similar to the WWII. What differences are there? Is there a large size or weight difference, is there a different point of balance? Can any one in the know do a sort of 'compare/contrast' of the two? Any info would be appreciated to help me decide on my next acquisition.

Actually, I'd recommend the UBE for your requirements. It would be around the weight range you want, and is able to accomplish any task your other khukuri's can, and some even better. The blade, even when of heavier stock has a lively feel due to the weight distribution. If you intend to use your knife as a camp/hunting tool, you'll find the upswept point gives you more edge where you need it for skinning/dressing out game, and performs piercing actions better. That blade shape has been around for millenia, used from the Alps to the Himilayas.

The UBE is a possibility. I want to get something around 17" and 2 to 2 1/2 pounds. My Bas (15") is on the heavy side for that model, as is my AK (19"). I would like to get something as close to exactly between the two as possible. It would please my sense of balance and harmony. It is going to take some time to save up some money; so I have plenty of time to do research and decide what I want. All you input and suggestions are welcome.

I would try the 'baby' GRS. At 17.5" it is quite a knife. If I had a digital camera that would make my life a lot easier, but as it stands, the photo places do a fine job of putting pics on disc.

Rob,

I think you will have to wait for something from Sher. He likes to build the thick and heavy. Most of the khukuri's in the 17" range or around 1.5-2 LB. Uncle Bill had a nice 18" WWII and slightly lengthened 15" Ang Khola by Sher that weighted 2 LB.

My full size GRS (22") weights only 2.75 LB. I like the heavier than normal khukuri's too, my 22" Ang Khola is 3.75 LB and Mega Salyan is 5.65 LB.

25" AK.... have you got Paul Bunyan as a customer Uncle Bill? You could definatley pull a muscle swinging that thing around.

Hmmmm.....now that you mention it.......

I'd be "Sher" crazy if I did do so, but I won't...

Sorry, Rusty.

4 KG = 8.8 LB !!!!

It might not be really that heavy with two hands. A typical rifle is 7-10 LB.

Too hander?

Get a picture please!

Test report!

Good point Will. All the weenies who complain about heavy kuk's take notice. Even a mere fully loaded, heavy caliber handgun can weigh up to four or five pounds.

Harry's form isn't nearly rare enough, Uncle. But that's beside the point.

It's strange nobody's yet mentioned about Gelbu Special. Mid size, 18" OAL, is classed between 15"er class and 20"er class. It feels just right in hand, looks smart in my eyes.
