Here's some pics from my fossil hunt on Monday. Haven't taken pics of everything, but here's a couple.

Squalicorax. Has been extinct for a looong time. Teeth are somewhat similar in morphology to those of modern day Tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) but both species aren't even related. The animals probably had similar feeding patterns, leeding to similar adaptations in their teeth. This was my best find of the day. After 6+ years of visiting the quarry (maybe up to 5 times per year, sometimes more, sometimes less) this is only my third tooth of this species. It's the largest one I've found too.

That's quite a find. Congratulations!

I have always been interested in fossils, but never really had the opportunity to look for them in a likely place. Geeze . . . I have trouble finding arrowheads in upper East Tennessee and there's bunches of them about . . . :)

Good morning all and Merry Christmas as well! Hope everyone got what they wanted, that they got to see family and friends, and good food was had, etc...

I had no expectations - so they were exceeded. :D
SWMBO has to work 2-6 this afternoon so I will get in some quality time with band saw and belt grinder. maybe even leather, needle, and thread.

Hope everyone has a blessed day and the new year brings you and yours more blessings and fewer trials than the previous.

Awesome photos, Galeocerdoshark! Now you've got me thinking about where I might take the girls fossil hunting around here....My little one's big 3rd grade field trip this year was to a place called Ruggle's Mine here in NH, but it's an old mica mine and we were mostly finding gemstones and some cool little crystals. When I was a kid in Upstate NY, there used to be a a bunch of fossil sites but they were all shale....although a few kids would always find teeth, the rest of us just found scads of shells and trilobyte thingys.
You must be pretty excited with those finds. Kind of an early Christmas present!

1500 and we haven't made a dent in the presents; I had to snake out the sewer this morning - 10 people staying here and I just couldn't leave it for later. Now the womenfolk are starting dinner and I'd lay even money we won't have all the gifts open 'til tomorrow afternoon. Good thing I've got the day off ;)!

Hope you all have enjoyed/are enjoying your celebrations. TMH, I'm looking forward to hearing how much your kids freaked out.
Merry Christmas everyone!

What's with sewer drains plugging up!!! I had to have a pro come on Monday to clear my kitchen drain. I tried to snake it myself, but the snake I have wouldn't reach the clog. A friend of mine had a drain plugged yesterday too. Now I see that yours was plugged up Granite. Now mine is getting slow again already!!!

Major problem. Too many people using those fancy buttwipes instead of regular TP. They don't break down the same way and cause big problems in the sewer system.

Sadly, mine is the sewer main and the clogs have been more or less chronic for the past few years; I have a big plastic horse bucket under the last cleanout with a snake and hose (for flushing the rest of the clog) standing at the ready. Unfortunately bad timing for this to happen is all, but tomorrow I'll be calling the jet/chain knocker people and having it reamed out proper. The pipe is ~70 years old, cast iron and full of scale....I'm just tired of hearing the telltale drip drip into the bucket with the ensuing panic of turning off the water and asking everyone to NOT FLUSH THE TOILETS! I was just too cheap to spend the $1000+ to fix it professionally, but it's been happening more frequently and I'm too damned old to be opening up the sewer pipe every 3 or 4 months. That's DIY I can live without, I guess. All's well, at least for now. Time for a little more Christmas as I think the kitchen shenanigans will be done soon; turkey's about to go into the oven.

Your sewer problem is much worse that mine. The pipe that goes from my kitchen sink to the main line is around 50' long and plugged with grease and such. I'll just have to get the guy here again if flushing it with hot water doesn't start to clear it some more.

I'm headed to my brothers place in about an hour to spend some time with the family. We are having knefla soup and a bunch of other stuff. I'm hungry as heck, so I think I'll have 2 or 3 bowls.

I had several biscuits with gravy for breakfast that looked just like Guyon's avatar.... Sadly, I didn't take any photos. I did get a few with the BK5 used to carve up dinner.

Rib roast crusted with kosher salt, horseradish, olive oil, rosemary, marjoram, and black pepper....you don't eat the crust, but it flavors the meat nicely.

Grilled salmon for my hipster daughter who is not a big meat eater. Did this on the grill with Chicago Steak Seasoning, dill, and butter.

And sliced them both with the BK5.

Add some horseradish, au jus, asparagus with hollandaise, twice-baked potato, and potato skin...washed down with a Sam Adams.

And after opening presents....Dutch apple pie ala mode and fresh ground Colombian coffee.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas as well!!

after running the hot water through it, try hot cider vinegar -- let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then pour in a cup of baking soda washed down with more vinegar & cover the drain.

do not do this if you have any "suspect" pipes in the house - it could cause a rupture if there's a particularly weak spot.

vinegar helps break down the fats that the hot water loosened, and the baking soda & vinegar react with each other and pressurize the line - causing it to push clogs out. just make sure all your sinks and the bathtub drains in the house are closed before doing the last step.

Thanks. I'll have to try that. This drain is on its own line, bit I'll block off all the others just to be sure I don't end up with a mess. I'll grab the stuff tomorrow when the stores open back up.

Today I got to see my mom and 2 of my brothers plus nieces, nephew et al. Spent most of the day indoors with everybody getting caught up and eating but it got a little crowded so I went out back to get a fire going in the pit. Before too long, the fire pit was the place to be. But it was a lot less crowded. :D
I used my Camillus 9 to break down the limbs that were left from the ice storm we had. No hot dogs or smores cause we were all stuffed.

Quick pic of me and the 9.

Hope y'all had as much fun as we did. And that you all have a Very Merry Christmas!!!

Everyone's talking about the awesome food they had, guess I'll play too. I had a frozen pizza and Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs straight from the can. Mmmmm-MMMM! We're doing a potluck kinda think at work tonight though so I'll get to eat something decent.

154CM has survived nearly 2 years with my mom now, including being buried in the compost pile. Must be the toughest blade steel ever.

We made a goose and carved it with some custom 1095. Stock now simmering on the stove.

Merry Christmas, y'all.
