Man I got flown from the plant yesterday and went straight to the ER. Looks like a full blown Inguinal Hernia. Go see the gut carver Monday AM so I'm out of action for awhile. Wonder if he will be using a NICK???

Life just took a wrong turn. anyway it is what it is.

Damn Russ, ouch! I feel bad for ya bro. Get well soon......I hope all turns out well. Smoke and prayers sent from DC.

Ouch!! The name even sounds painful. It made my head hurt just trying to pronounce it. :D

I hope everything goes well for you Monday.

It isn't that invasive anymore. They'll do it with small incisions and insert a mesh to keep your guts in. You'll be back up and around in no time. Good luck!

Good luck! It may not be a walk in the park, but I've known some people to get through it with "relative ease". At least, they recovered quicker than they thought they would.

Hope it works that way for you.

Russ,

I've BTDT....it's uncomfortable, but at least for me wasn't as horrible as folks led me to believe....Plus, I didn't even notice the vasectomy

Hey, on a serious note, do consider having the thing fixed "old school style". The chance for recurrence with the laproscopic procedure is something like 30-40% higher. I had mine done "old school" on the advice of my surgeon.....who had his done the same way, for that reason.

FYI they're using the same Du Pont mesh they were using in Southeast Asia in the 60's! Now that is what I call "staying power"!

Brian,
Thanks for the info Bro!!! I've been sitting here trying to get all node up, and that's what I've been hearing and seeing. Go with the screen...

Just had the surgery a little over 2 weeks ago. I had the traditional method, with the mesh, done and reccommended by one of the best hernia docs in the country. Here's the rundown on pain/discomfort.

The first day sucks, but you'll be able to walk out of the hospital/surgical center. You'll be hunched over while walking, but able to get around, and go up and down stairs with help from the railing. I found sitting up with my legs straight to be the most comfortable, so a recliner, or a chair with an ottoman helps. Also, recovering from the anestesia sucks even more.

They'll give you a script for a narcotic pain reliever, which you may or may not decide to take. I took 2 of the 30 pills that they perscribed. You probably won't need it, past the first day or two, and they can cause constipation, which is un-f'ing bearable with an incision in your gut preventing you from "pushing harder". So, if you take the PK's, then get a stool softner, activia yogurt, and eat lots of fiber and fruit.(don't ask me how I know).

Some advice that I was given and followed, was to walk around the first day a little, and then as much as comfortable the following days. This is supposedly to keep from getting stiff and to keep that area flexible as it heals.

Some advice that I was not given, that I wish I had, is to get/wear boxer briefs or another supportive type of underwear. Boxers don't offer the support that you need while recovering IMO.

Finally, it will be painful in that area, sometimes beyond belief, if you sit in an awkward position for a while and then get up, etc. However, I noticed that after a week and a half, that a switch almost flipped, and the hurting stopped. I mentioned this to my doc at the post-op check up, and he said that he's heard this from alot of his patients, so hang in there.

Feel free to PM or post any questions that you may have, and good luck.

BTW, I own a company where I work physically everyday. I was back to work, four days after the surgery, including the surgery day, with one of my guys helping me with the heavy lifting. I was back to full duty this week, and back in the gym on Monday as well, so you won't miss much.

Well, my dear brother, if you need a private duty nurse...I may know somebody! ;)

Seriously...PM or email me if I can answer questions or be of help!

At least it wasn't a Swinal Hernia.

Get better soon!

I know a sergeon that opted out on the screen.
6 months later he was back for the screen.
Hope it goes easy.
