Hi I have literally just joined this group because my dad has just passed down a pen knife to me which has been passed down the family. It has engraved DR J BENSON on the side which is a mystery in its self as we didnt know anyone who was a DR in the family at all. I have worked through roughly cleaning the blades and found t turner co, thomas turner co, encore and oil joints and for his majesty written in multiple places on attachments etc. After researching turner co I found they made a book of there models in 1902 and on page 37 on 40 on a dropbox copy of the book found the exact model.
My question is how much roughly is this thing worth? My dad wasn’t exactly expecting me to find any details out at all as I have only had it now max 4 hours but have narrowed down from the majesty’s bit its roughly 1899-1902. Any ideas? Its on page 169 model 5501 the 4 and a half inch german silver with lock back large blade

Trying to attach photos and cant seem to work it out on the phone atm.

ya can't ask worth without a gold paid membership. you can ask details on it and maybe post some pics and details you have here on the Bernard Levine id forum...good luck.

Welcome to the forum. You can ask all you want about what the knife is, but you can't ask about price unless you have a gold or higher membership(that also allows you to sell)

Ok where can I get more info on the knife

If you want to know about the knife, post pictures. Use IMGUR as a free hosting site then use the BBCode link to post them here.
If all you want to know is how much your family heirloom is worth so you can sell it, just put it an fleabay. What you get for it is what its worth....

Knife from right around the turn of the 20th century, well over 100 years old, passed down through the family as an heirloom, it is sad to me to think that it is not worth far more to you then any monetary value that could possibly be placed on it...

Let's hope he's just curious on value and not thinking of selling it. That would be terrible to be the one who sold the family heirloom that's been passed down for 100 years.

OP: Seems like you've already found more info on the pen knife than most people here could provide.

Would love to see a pic of it if you can figure out how to post it. A lot of newbies to BF seem to have problems doing it but it's really easy if you use a hosting site like Imgur.com which most people use here.

As for valuation, the cost of a Gold Membership isn't all that expensive in order to get a "free" estimate from someone here who "might" know what it's worth. However, since the pen knife is over 100 yrs old, and apparently made in England, IMO you'd be better off trying to get an "estimate" of its value by consulting a "weapons" or "pen" specialist at an international auction house like Sotheby's for that purpose.

Of course, they'll charge you for a formal appraisal but they'd probably give you a valuation range for free if they don't have to do any research on it and if you say you're interested in putting it up for auction (even if you actually aren't).
