Initial Impression CRKT Carson M18

Kodiak,
I would bet that the flipper received some inadvertant pressure while going into your pocket. That's the only logical rational I can see for the blade tip coming opened a bit. I had a similar experience with my M-16/O4.
Plan on trading a couple of my spydies for a large, black, 18 plain asap.

Posted a brief cursory rev. myself when I came for lunch and had my M18 waiting in the mail box for me. Mostly about the cosmetics and how it is put together. I must say that I never thought I would get another CRKT. Hate AUS6M steel. This has the AUS8a so it is a definite step up. Arrived very sharp but not with a good bite. It now has a very good bite to the edge. I don't think people have any idea on how big this blade is from pictures of it. I have been home from work for about 3hrs now and have done some things with the knife from cutting up a chicken(wife is cooking as I write) to cutting a free standing paper bag on our breakfast room table. This is about as tactical as I get with a knife. Well sometimes some rolled up newspapers hung from strings in the garage. It has worked very well at both the cutting up of the chicken, courtesy of my wife, and the paper bag thing. The free standing paper bag thing is just really to test edge geometery more than any thing else. I want to cut into the bag with as little movement of the bag as possible. Anyways it seems to do this very well. The fit and finish of the knife is very good. The only gaps anywhere are with the blue G10 inlays. Not bad but if you look you can seem them. The thumb studs are a bit rough and I will break the edges so they don't ruin my pants pocket. For the size of the knife the lite wt. belies its' robustness. One other thing I noticed when using it is that I would have thought that the handle slabs could have been a bit more curved. Not by much but a bit more so. That and little pinky hinge on the butt of the knife would make it better than it already is. Which is still very good. Anyways anyone looking for a big robust cleaver of a blade with not bad ergonomics will not be disappointed in this knife. I still like my old round hole AFCK and SERE 2000 better. Now if only my CQC7A would get here! Keep'em sharp
