Why did I get this knife?
You ever have that when you see something and it just kind of calls to you? I had that with this knife. It looks friendly and has all the features I like on a knife.
Fit and Finish:
Overall, I found the fit and finish to be very good. The only imperfection on the knife it the blade is not quite perfectly centered. Very close but a tiny bit off. This kind of stuff always kind of bugs me, and I know it bugs other people as well so I think it needs to be mentioned. Other than this, the knife is beautifully done. The blade is nicely polished and looks great. The Titanium slab has a beadblast/anodized finish like on some striders and looks fantastic. It also feels very nice in the hand. The pivot screw is really cool and is a nice touch. The lanyard hole is also nicely placed and I have added a leather lanyard that help makes the knife seem a little larger (not shown in picture). The blade also easily flicks open and the action is very smooth. Lock up is at exactly 25%. 7/10
Grip/comfort:
For such a small knife, I found the grip to be excellent. The finger grooves are placed perfectly and feel very comfortable. The scalloped scales are also very comfortable and grippy. The clip is also comfortable in the hand. The jimping on the knife is also rough, but not sharp and is quite functional. By far the most comfortable small knife I have ever handled 10/10
Pocket clip:
The pocket clip is titanium and has a finish much like the rest of the titanium slab. The only difference is the colored little drill holes. The clip has great tension. Tight, but not overly tight. The knife rides fairly high in the pocket and this makes it easy to grab but is visible. Personally, never been a problem for me, but if you like a low riding knife, the yuna probably isnt for you. I really like the clip. The only knife I have owned that had a better clip is my sebenza.
9/10
Blade Function:
The blade came like a razor as you would expect for a custom knife. A nice even grind. The blade is quite thick for such a small bade but is somewhat hollow grind and cuts quite well. Ive had the chance to prepare some fruit and veggies so far and it cuts very well. I havent had a need to sharpen it yet so can't comment on easy to sharpen or how long the edge lasts. I will do a full review in a few months once I get a lot more pocket time. Given what I know 10/10
Neat Features:
The yuna is a framelock and much like the sebenza and other framelocks,it uses the pocket clip to help prevent the lockbar from over extending. It lacks the hinderer stabilizer (I think thats what its called
) but if you look closely youll notice that the unique pivot screw actually extends over the lock bar. This effectivly prevents the lockbar from over extending. I actually did not realize this before buying the knife and at first saw it as a flaw. Very cool
Summary:
Overall, Ill admit I was a little underwhelmed with the knife when I first got it. I am normally a larger knife kind of guy, and generally prefer a knife that is really there in your hand. However, as I foldled the knife and realized how comfortable it was and its ability to cut etc, it quickly changed my mind. I
see this knife spending a lot of time in my pocket.
The way I see it, the Yuna EQ 2 is a cute little pocket tank if that makes any sense. Its a sturdy knife that cuts great and has a real friendly appeal. As soon as my friend saw it she said "wow, its so cute!". Might be a bad thing if your going for a tough guy image, but I think being discrete is never a bad thing. I believe this one will hold up to the job and look friendly doing it
Is it worth the price tag (it is cheaper with a pure ats34 blade)? To me it was worth the cost. I think I would prefer it over a small sebenza which is a similar cost. Its a unique little blade that I think most people including non knife people would appreciate. So if your looking for a small knife and want something Unique, I think the Yuna eq2 is for you. Just be aware that youll be waiting 4-5 months for your little tank to be made
Heres a couple pics (ill add some more tomorrow--my camera is with one of my friends for the day). Enjoy!
