I pose the following to the community. Why do so many tie their god and their religion to they knife hobby? I respect each to worship how the choose. But why must so many insert this into the discussion?

I for one and sick to death of the religious overtones or outright nonsense that has no place or purpose in the broader community - regardless of your religious preference.

Yes, of course, we can pick and choose which groups, pages, or people we associate with, but I just don't get why God has anything to do with the knife world. It is such a turn off to have that crap so influential in the community.

Again, I fully support religious freedoms and come at this from an atheist standpoint. It is just such a weird aspect of it all. Can't we just use the knife hobby and community for just that and that alone?

I know I will be in the minority here, but it is getting really old.

Not trolling in the least. Thank you for so eloquently proving my exact point.

I'm sure you're not trolling here right?
I'm sure calling someone's religion "that crap" will go over well.
Speaking of freedoms....you're free to take yourself somewhere else.

You win the "useless thread" of the day award.

Or at least self reflect for a moment. You started a thread.....about religion....to complain of people posting about religion.
We need a "General Knife Discussion " just to argue over what knife to cut this thick ass irony with.

IMO , yes you are trolling . If you have a specific problem with a post you should report it to the moderators . Otherwise just shut up , please ! :p

The only thing more confusing than religion is this o_O:eek:, thank God for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, Buddha, Saint Nicholas, the burning bush, Ganesh and the Dali llama, shalom..

Let's see... New guy with a whole year and a few months under his belt who has posted a whole 22 times uses his precious 21st post to complain about a non-issue on the board. He is so put upon by the religious foisting their religion on him (where did this horror occur by the way?) that he feels compelled to ask that they take their religion elsewhere so that he won't be offended by them. Or... Perhaps he could lead by example and practice some of that tolerance he feels is so desperately missing around here. Or... If he feels that the environment is so toxic why would he wish to participate? I must ask the op if perhaps he makes his domicile under a bridge? Does he have an affinity for attacking goats crossing rivers? How does he feel about wandering about naked with long hair in various neon colors?

I must be completely stupid!!! I don't recall religion being mentioned on the forum, at least not in general knife discussion or the threads i read. Again i must be stupid, religion being tied to posts about peoples knife hobby, i"ll have to start concentrating.o_O

The General Forum is for threads about knives.
The choices for places to move it to were W&C or Tech Support. Tech Support won the coin toss.

It's really hard to comment without a specific example. We get reports about "religious posts" from time to time. Usually it turns out to be somebody stating that somebody or other said something unrelated to religion at church and the poster says where he heard it to give context.

I go to church from time to time. That does not make me a bad person.

Great to see democracy at work. The "Old Coin Toss", no fairer way to decide an outcome.

Where are these Religious overtones that your so sick to death of? If you genuinely want to have a serious discussion you'll need to bring more to the table.

A question for you: If I closed this with "God Bless" would you consider that an injection of Religion into the knife community?

hmmm, for many religions, a blood sacrifice is demanded of its followers. and rather than to execute a crude dispatch with a rock or club, a sharp bladed edge is instead more
ideal for a quicker or "humane" way of practicing these blood letting rituals.
i won't go into detail as to why this is
necessary or that why others consider it inhumane in these times; but i will say
that religion has a very profound effect
on tthe mindset and personality of a
devout follower.
if a blade is deemed as the traditional tool
for use in order to applease the "gods", so
it is that its significance in the religious sense becomes unquestionable, especially
if the blade is specifically embelished and made into a "sacred object" to denote
its special place amongst the ordinary less ornate and unritualised objects.
humans as a whole, have not quite as yet
attained full enlightenment and so the fear of death reigns in the hearts of the majority.
besides those in this forum or in the cutlery
business, the very sight of a knife will not
be accompanied by a huge smile nor even remotely considered a welcomed one at
that.
it seems we should all be a lot more grateful
or appreciative of our present mortal existance. it is to this eventuality of death which all must face someday, that makes some amongst us bitter or angry that
we feel cheated of having to expire to
nothingness and leave behind all the material we had accumalated in a lifetime.
so it is that a special blade, with religious
significance would be the one single object
revered enough to ensure that even in death, the knife becomes necessary for the afterlife and beyond. it becomes important
for mortals to belive that their existance
had actually mattered in the scheme of things; and would somehow continue to
matter in ways well beyond our
limited mortal comprehension of time
space continuum. but i can see why
fate has indeed moved this thread to tech support.

Because, people are as passionate about their knives as they are about their religion, or family, or pets , or anything else that anyone warrants mentioning on a discussion forum about their life. It’s a part of who they are and being the socialites we are, sharing life experiences is a normal process.
