Ink Eraser Knives

I’ve always been intrigued by these often-mislabeled erasers, and have come across a few over the years, yet I’ve never purchased one. I’m glad someone is giving these mementos of a simpler time a good home!

Unfortunately I have a niece with a MBA from a well known US university who can't read nor write script
Hard to imagine.
Several of the common letters are the same as printed, lower case and/or upper case.

Cursive has become a "secret code" us elders can use to make the younger think we are plotting something against them ... 🤪😁

How long before the "schools" stop teaching how to write with pen/pencil and paper, and teach typing only, with spell check turned on no doubt, so the don't have to teach spelling, either?

It's already happened. My daughter's elementary school does not focus on spelling at all, and 75% of all school work is done on electronics, including homework. When I spoke with her teacher asking about if there would be spelling quizzes, I was told that the curriculum no longer focuses on spelling or grammar, as students will not need to know either by the time they hit the work force. Everything will be auto-corrected.

Well, just to play it safe, I decided to teach spelling and grammar to my daughter on my own during weekends and summers. I think she'll thank me later in life.

I think over the days you've been here, you've posted a knife or two ... maybe three ... with this pre-war style can opener?
In your opinion, would this type of can opener pull double duty as an eraser?

From what I remember, the eraser blades were not as sharp as the pen or jack knife blades, so it might work?

I suppose it could work, although the side thingy might get in the way.

I know the ink eraser was used to remove ink from the paper surface, but I have to admit I've never seen it done, and haven't tried it yet. I'm not sure if it was done with a low-angled, forward cutting motion to shave the top surface of the vellum (in which case one would need a very sharp, thin knife) or more likely you are right, and it was done in a backwards scraping manner.

We are doomed.

Here are a couple more, both by Joseph Rodgers. The newer one came by way of Canada, a gift from my friend Charlie, waynorth waynorth . It's marked with a G(crown)R which should mean King George V (1910-1936) or VI (1936-1952) I'm thinking the latter. It looks unused.
The one marked "Cutlers to Her Majesty" I assume to be referring to Victoria (1837–1901)

Speaking of antiquated tools, there's the matter of button hooks. We still use buttons on our clothes today, but I've never heard of anyone in this century using a hook to fasten them. I wonder why.

The big silver one came as a surprise in the box with the eraser from Charlie, and the little folding one was a gift from Jack Black Jack Black . Thanks, Guys! 🙂

They’re for buttoning shoes. Poke the hook through the leather eyehole and hook the thread beneath the button, make a 360-degree circle with the handle and the button is through! Easy Peasy.
