I screwed up and my wife saw the pictures of Dr. Bill and his son at Inks Lake (about an hour SW of us)...well, we threw some stuff together and went down to hike around for the day. We had a blast and the swimming area was quite refreshing...I was surprised my son was up to jumping off the 25-30 foot cliff  We screwed up and didn't take the camera, but we explored the back end of the swimming area to some small (really small) falls where we enjoyed the beauty (and heat!). Thanks for inspiring us today Dr. Bill:D

The cliff jump! My son is getting ready to do the big jump...

I did take some knives, but only used my RSK and my Fiddleback Nessmuk...sadly, no photos:grumpy: I also took along my Fallkniven F1 with Lone Rider's Micarta handle, my Breeden Kelly-Knife, BRKT Aurora, Spyderco Military and my new Swiss Spirit multi-tool...my wife was more interested in hiking, bouldering and swimming...who could argue with this?

Awesome, rock. Looks like a great time. Your boy has brass balls s far as im concerned.

rock, looks like a nice daytrip, and that water looks nice and cool.

sounds like you were totin a pile of steel...shame you didn't get to use it all but i agree, who could argue with that? ;)

plus, hiking and bouldering is alot of fun too.

Rock,
Is that a maxpedition you are wearing?

Yeah, it's a Devildog...really a great little shoulder or lumbar pack...I like the side pouches that both hold a 1 liter bottle. I strapped my long sleeve shirt, Chaco sandals underneath and had my swim trunks inside with PSK, FAK, knives, 550 cord...the usual:D I haven't been using it much, but it makes a great grab-n-go bag for a day hike.

You're not kidding! The other boy who is in the air jumped from the lower part...I had my son jump from there first...as soon as his head came out of the water he was wanting to jump off the upper tier. You can't see it, but there's another boulder about 15-20 feet higher than where my son is standing and a couple of teenage kids jumped from up there...those are some titanium balls (and no brains)! Regardless, I was quite proud that he did it (twice even:D).

Definately not me:eek: She's known as the "drill sergeant" at school (teaches 8th Grade)...in my house it's "yes ma'am" or "right-away General":D

hehehe. That is so cool man. Looks like an awesome swimmin spot. How deep is it right there?

Everybody there was saying it was at least 15-20 feet deep. On my second jump I just barely touched the bottom...so that sounds more like 15ish. It was a blast...I just get leary about jumping into murky water where you can't seen the bottom (ala Bear G.).

ROCK6

Yeah me too. I usually have to swim in and check it to be sure. Unless youre being forced in (go ARMY!)......

ROCK, those are GREAT pics! Robin and I are going to have to go to Inks Lake when I get home! As you well know, even THAT looks green compared to this over here!

By the way, you still want to get together at the Austin Gun Show this month?

If I'm not TDY, I plan on attending (19-20 JUL)...either day will work for me, shoot me an email when you get back home...stay safe,

Nice pictures. Glad you had fun. That is the way to take the heat head on with a day hike. Got to check out Inks Lake myself sometime soon. I've always heard good things about it.

BTW, I too answer to a higher power with red hair.

Rock,

I like the Devil Dog. It and my French Ruscksack are my main wood's bags. I wear the DD with a wide, after-market shoulder strap, I don't have enough butt to wear it as a lumbar..

Can speak to the butt:D, but a wider should strap would help...it was okay, but would be much more comfortable with a wider strap.

We gotta hook up and do some hiking/knife testing soon.
Going here today--about 20 minutes from the house

I agree! That area looks pretty good, you'll have to shoot me the details on the trails you hike. We should be back from Colorado Bend by Wed, so I'll IM you if you plan to be at Fort Hood on Thursday we could link up,
