Inks Lake, Tx

so does a long sleeve croatian camo shirt and some blue jeans a vest seem too much for clothing, weather permitting. I bought 2 croatian camo shirts from sportsmans guide and they havent arrives yet and they where $18 for the 2 and they are new and i figure that they would be good for camping plus i like military camo i dont wear it but i like it.

So is this how it is everywhere, all the time? Are fixed blades legal for carry in public?

Would I get hassled for carrying a sub 4in. fixed blade in or around Houston if it were carried discreetly?

I mean, I don't dress like a freak or anything, polo's and cargo shorts most of the time, I'm not the type to draw the attention of law enforcement.

I'm moving to the Houston burbs next week from Jersey where carrying pretty much anything sharp is a felony;).

Except for the obvious places, like post offices, fed property and bars, yes.

No...I carry a CRKT Kasper which is pushing 4" all the time. No one says a word. It has been in pocket when pulled over and out of the vehicle.

One note: Double-edged, automatic, and stilettos are illegal.

Yep. 5.5" is the magic length. Anything less should be no problem anywhere (except the police station and court buildings). If you are out in the woods camping, even parks, I doubt whether anyone would care about your battle rat, etc as long as you're not threatening someone. Of course I've been curious how they measure the blade length. Length of sharpened edge? From handle to tip? If handle to tip then a skeleton type knife is all blade. I haven't been to Inks Lake in decades but it use to be my favorite park. I don't remember there being any primitive camping.

Blade length is measured basically 'from tip to grip' Essentially, the entire length of the cutting edge. As it was mentioned, as long as you are not committing a felony or some other such stupidity, they aren't going to bust out with a micrometer to check length. Most use the width of the palm, from the fleshy part on the palm below the pinky to the spot where your thumb knuckle rests, as a safe measurement. Take the blade and lay it on your hand perpindicular to your forearm and as long as the entire cutting edge does not exceed that length, you are almost 100% clear.

Also, Bitter, the long-sleeves may be a bit much in early Sept. I would definitely suggest some rain gear though. You live close enough to know how the weather is here. I have been to Inks a few times and it isn't much fun when wet. Also, I would suggest the short drive down the road to Longhorn Caverns as well. Definitely worth the trip. Hell, that whole area, from Marble Falls on, is great. I am about 30 miles from Marble Falls in Lago Vista, so these are regular fishing haunts for me.
