How do I inlay wood/stuff into g-10/titanium? I read on Chris Reeve's website he uses 3M double sided tape, he mills out a slot, and puts the tape in and then puts the inlay in, I was wondering about your methods.

I have a buck vantage, and the little metal buck emblem fell out. To replace it I used a little dab of gorilla glue. Seems to be holding up great.

The 3M VHB tapes are really strong. They come in a range of thicknesses from a few thousandths to about 1/8". They can be purchased in rolls or packs of small sheets that are easily trimmed to fit things like inlay work. A big plus is that they provide a slightly flexible bond that resisted "popping out" of the inlay.
I have experimented with them for putting handles on knives, and the bond is excellent. I haven't had one in use for enough years to see how the long term durability is with water exposure and such, but the 3M literature seems to imply that it will be good. This winter I plan on using it to put the scales on some folders and see how that goes.

I have not heard of the 3M tape, but will have to check that out. I fixed most makers just used epoxy like many do for the scales, on fixed blade knives.

Hi Stacy,
Some of the local Dept of Transportation units use that stuff to attach road signs to posts! We've used it here at work (metal fab shop) and have considered using it in place of welding in some instances. It is a very strong product! I use small Pcs of it when I am doing my initial grinding/sanding on my scales prior to attaching to the blade. Too much can make separating the 2 scales a bit interesting!

I've owned several Sebenzas, but only one inlay. I have done a little research on how durable the inlay bonding is, and I've never come across a situation where the inlay came out.

I'd guess that it's a very effective method since these user knives (mostly) have been going strong for years.

Gorilla glue is indeed a commonly used method for re attaching slippie shields that fall out. Most of mine are pinned though.

The tape sounds like the right thing for an upcoming folder I want to do. Thanks for that. Frank
