Innovative Features in Production Knives

How about the push button axis lock?
I recently purchase a BM665 or APB.
BM internalized the axis lock........put it under the scale and designed an ambidextrous push button mechanism to disengage the lock.
This push button mechanism is easier to operate than the original axis lock is.
I de-assisted mine.
It is a excellent design.

...!

I might have to check one of those out. Luckily, there's a brick and mortar store that sells Benchmade products nearby.

Also, this thread is great!

Opinel for their:
- use of a full convex grind combined with thin blades;
- the viroloc rotating collar lock;
- purpose-built, minimalist design;
- a production process that allows them to produce millions of these knives a year and maintain a less than entry level price point.

Honestly, in many ways I think CRKT is perhaps the most innovative production knife company out there. Many of their innovations come from custom makers, many are poorly executed and some just aren't very useful, but they certainly aren't afraid to slap new features on their knives.

The more I think about this the more I think the list of brands which aren't innovative would be far shorter.

Knife design and production is an exercise in innovation. Choice of materials, profile, grind, ergonomics, heat treat, multiple blades and other tools...the opportunities for innovation in design seem almost endless. And that's before you even start to consider innovation in production.

That's why my stylish yet practical hat is off to just about every knife maker out there.

I just noticed they make a knife with a 8.875 blade. That's pretty awesome.
