Looking for some insight on what to use for counter boring screw and bearing pockets in titanium. I have piloted counter bores that work great for mild steel and handle materials but HSS tooling doesn't work well or last long on Ti.
The perfect solution would be an adjustable pilot carbide counter bore but have not had much success locating that.
Any thoughts passed on are appreciated guys
Thanks

Hey, I don't have a lot of experience in this yet, but have been doing an absolute TON of research. I know a lot of people on another forum prefer using carbine endmills for counter boring.

That was the direction I was leaning but having a pilot to center the hole makes things quicker an easier. Thanks for your response.

Joseph, search "custom tool grinding" you can get anything you want made. I use to use someone in California but don't remember the name right now. They would make anything I could describe over the phone or emailed drawing. They would take an endmill that was bigger than the size you need, grind it down to size and grind a pilot on it. The cost was the price of the endmill plus shop time, usually less than $100.00.

You don't have to go to California to get this done, Nathan may know someone in NC.
