Insingo Damascus anyone???

Insingo in stainless damascus? If they made it, I'd take AT LEAST ONE, possibly more if they make variations! :D

After reading this thread a few times I sent the following e-mail to Chris Reeve Knives:

Subject: Special order possible
Mr. Reeve,
At the Blade show in 2011, I asked you about the possibility of Damascus Insingos, and you replied "that one would have to order it" or something to that effect.

After waiting for Damascus to appear in the Insingo blade style, not available your website says. (have purchased several Damascus Sebebzas from you over the years)

So I would like to submit an order, hopefully the quantities would make possible what a single knife would not.
All Sebenza with Insingo Blades + Basketweave Damascus (or other?)

(5) Lg Micarta
(5) Lg Plain handle
(5) Sm Micarta
(5) Sm Plain
If this is even a possibility, I would love to discuss group price.

I'm pretty sure the ChrisReeveKnives group on BladeForums.com would snap up most of them.

Thanks for your consideration
Michael B

Michael,

Thank you for your email. I’m sorry but we are not offering the Insingo in a damascus blade. Although the quantities you requested are impressive, we do not make custom knives. That being said, at some point in the future we may offer a damascus Insingo but not at this time. You never know what Chris will decide to come up with. My best suggestion is to watch our website to see if one is offered or just contact us again in 8 months or so to see if anything has changed.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
All the best,

Heather

Hey, it never hurts to try! I'd have tried to snag one of those for sure. Oddly, I know there have been CRK "forum knives" on JD. Why not here? Something in an Insingo damascus? ;)

I still don't get why they are not willing to offer a damascus insingo, you wouldn't think it'll be that hard to accomplish, since they are not starting from zero, Im sure there are factors and specs to consider but that's why they are "CRK", to work around problems and offer a great product. It is hard to understand tha fact that they offer the 21 in all kinds of damascus(and Im sure specs have to change depending on the material and pattern)but they haven't even attempted to create a single insingo blade.

Thank You Mike for your efforts!
While the answer is not what I hoped for, they did not say "no".
I can not blame CRK for having his own plan.

As for the reason, I can imagine that KA, who was the initiator of the Insingo, also has plans.
I mean it took some time to convince Chris to do the Insingo.
Then there came the large, the small and one with a CF scale (lg & sm) and even a version with CF inlays.
Not bad for a new design. I bet the 25 also takes up much time.
Given the fact that there is a reputation to defend I can understand that things take their time.
IIRC we should see a PS Insingo and a Nyala Insingo some time in the future.

So to sum it up, I have a good feeling that the Damascus Sebenza Insingo is on the list of future projects at CRK.
Thanks you all who participate in this endeavor.

I would buy one or more faster than a dealer would list them....damascus insingo would be awesome!

My guess is there must be something about the Insingo grind that would require some R&D to successfully make in SS Damascus. I think they could do it, but need time to figure out how (IE develop a CNC machining program and grinding technique to match the blade requirements to the material properties). My insingo has a much thinner grind that my SP 21s. I am thinking there is some challenge getting either the blade or the swedge to look good in Damascus, so they are holding off for now, as other projects are the priority.

Nope..has nothing to do with CNC. CNC doesn't care..Shape, profile..it's all the same. CNC and grinding are not the hangups as they both are either a simple program. (they already have the program for the plain insingo version. Damascus changes virtually nothing..maybe some feeds and speeds...but I doubt it changes much at all) The grind would come from muscle memory from the persons doing the actual grinding...I'm sure it's not much different than the current operations..if any at all. Abrasives don't care too much.

My guess would be their other commitments..Or, if you prefer..Just not having the resources.

Cool idea though...Love my Insingo...would be really cool to have a damascus version.

Probably it has to do with the gents that came up with the design.
Maybe they have the right for the first batch - so it has to fit in their time-frame.
I wonder if we will see one with a CF scale?
Cac't wait.
