Insingo, which configuration for my next CRK?

Okay, we need you guys with both to chime in on finger grooves. Any issues, concerns, regrets?

Good arguments for the 21:
  • More "classic" handle design
  • Pivot bushing and simpler construction
  • Thinner blade
Good arguments for the Inkosi:
  • Far improved lock design (I'm a ceramic ball fan)
  • Double lugs by default
  • Thicker blade
I don't think you could go wrong with either. Micarta is the way to go though.

Appreciate the points made....

Thicker blade is not important since I have no need for a hard use knife. Lockup is not important either since I know folks who have had Sebenzas forever and never wore one out. And again, no hard use, so no real reason to worry about lock fail. The ceramic ball is cool and would alleviate potential lock stick I guess. The double studs would be nice I admit. And I agree, micarta is for sure the way I am going.

I am leaning 21 because I actually like the hollowed grind and that the blade is thinner. Seems to be a better slicer, and I am still concerned about those finger grooves limiting my grip possibilities.

Will be ordering tomorrow morning, so gotta sleep on it. The PERFECT knife, to me, would be a 21 with the new lockup upgrades and double studs.

Double studs are cool, but it sounds like you dig the 21 blade and handle utility more.

Go with what you know. If the finger grooves may be an issue, don't get an Inkosi. You won't know until you have it in hand if it fits your hand or interferes with your grip. Some do not like the finger grooves for that very reason. The finger grooves fit my hand comfortable and I have no issues with them. It may not be the same for you. And, you can find what you're looking for with double lugs.

One last question. I see the clip is slanted on the Inkosi. Is that solely to make it ride in the pocket different or does it do something else? Like does it relieve pressure on lockbar and make for easier lock release maybe?

It makes lock release easier since there isn’t any tension placed on the lock bar from the clip.

The downside of this (for me) is it angles the knife in my pocket a odd. I prefer the straight clip.

Well, there was a great deal on a large 21 Insingo on the exchange so the decision was made for me! Can’t wait to get it!

I think you guys may have already decided but I'm very pro inkosi. Don't get me wrong, my first CRK was a large insingo 21 and I still use it a lot but CRK has said something to the effect of the inkosi representing the combined knowledge of over 30 years of knife-making. Good thing is, all CRKs are great and the 21 is a fine choice.

The clip is slanted because if they left it on the lockbar (like on the 25) the tip of the clip hits the meat of your fingers.
