Instagram doesn't play nice with Knife makers

I know a lot of us use instagram as a marketing tool. I'm also sure most of us have been unable to promote our posts either on Instagram or on Facebook because knives are classified by Facebook as "weapons", regardless of their actual intended use. This bothers me especially when the knife in question is a kitchen knife.

Has anybody ninja'd around their system and is able to promote their posts on a regular basis? I've only ever done it by accident it seems.

Thoughts?

Can't speak from personal experience...but a number of makers have moved from here to Instagram; so there's got to be a way.

IG restricted my ability to run a promotion with no opportunity to appeal...
Hey I hear you, what they're doing is ridiculous. And yet I know that a good number of knife makers are making a living selling exclusively on IG. I'm not saying they're not doing anything else to promote themselves, because I'm sure they are, but somebody out there has got to have a work-around or a strategy. I'd love to hear about it if there is one...

I sell far more knives on instagram and have many more eyes on what I am making there then I do here and it is free and not $75/year.

Even the knives I post for sale here sell first usually on IG.

I do not know what a promotion is on IG but I do know my DM's and email sure keep me busy.

That's great to hear, I know IG can be a great avenue. The promotion is just a paid boost to your post, and results in those "ads" you see when you scroll through your feed (from what I understand). It's nice for those of us who are trying to develop a larger audience. You can target your ad using facebook's targeting algorithms and parameters, which are very advanced and are able to target people based on location, age, and especially interest.

I'm just a slip joint mod at this point and I'm also a follower of Mr. Vigil's AVigil AVigil on IG. I've never had any issue with IG. I'm not a big social media type but the exposure on IG has been great honestly. Most the forum dudes are on there and it's easy.

Well to be clear, most of my business is from Instagram.... I was just stating that I no longer have the ability to do paid promotions

I do a lot on IG very little on FB. Seems like a lot more tire kickers on FB. Haven’t ever promoted though. Hasn’t seemed necessary.

Apparently there is a new social media platform just recently launched due to all the censorship by fb/ig etc and it's called parler, it won't have as many people but probably a good idea to get an account there. I haven't done it yet but am going to soon.

For ig just hash tag appropriately and your following should grow. I don't know about promotion thoug .

Is Parler going to be the new Vero? Any other makers remember when that was blowing up and everybody was going to leave Instagram? LOL

If anyone wants to trade skills. I can help you with IG, I'm very new to this knife stuff actually just starting however Instagram I have a good gist of. I really need some contacts to help me get started just throwing it out there.
Most makers are very generous with sharing their time and knowledge. All you have to do is ask or google your question. A lot of guys actually post up great how to videos on youtube and whatnot. I do have a tech question for you maybe you or someone else can help me with, is it possible to change my IG username without switching to a new account? If so how? Thank you!

Go to profile and click edit profile. And just type in new name where it says username

Yeah don't waste your time on Parlor (or any of these alternative social media sites) fellas. It's been around since 2018.... And yeah, much like Bitchute, It's basically a place for the most toxic of the web to go cause they can espouse their views without getting banned for breaking TOS of places like youtube, FB, IG, etc. All these "alternative" social media sites are pretty F'd up and its the last place you want to put your businesses/brand on... I mean unless your thinking pedo loving nazis are going to keep your bills paid.. also read their TOS if they get into any trouble for what you post there, they sue YOU, the user for compensation.....

Duh! I wonder how I missed that before?!?! Thank you for the help!

I think its a good idea to have a personal and strictly business page. I also think its good for people to connect with who you are and having a link to your personal page helps give people more to connect with imo.
