This just happened...got an offer to purchase a blade on IG from a fella claiming to be in Sonoma CA. Insisted on paying up front, which anyone who has dealt with me knows I do not like...was very responsive on messaging WRT payment and such, but not so much on transaction details...like which knife he wanted or handle material. Got an email in my inbox from "Paypal" saying that they could not process the transaction without the sender sending an additional $200 to qualify for a "business" account, which seemed odd. The email further said a copy of the email was sent to the sender as well.

When confronted over IG about this, buyer said it was "normal" and he would send the additional $200 if I promised to send it back to him immediately.

Lucky for me I'm not an idiot. I checked my paypal, no transaction listed. Then I checked the email address that the "paypal" notification came from, paypalonlineacountant@GMAIL.com...scam.

The guys username on IG (which has since been shut down) was "unihoe", zero activity and a single picture of an older gentleman and lady on an apparent wedding day. Name listed Richard Hughes, address:
1394 Pueblo Ave, Sonoma, CA 95476, USA
After I noted the issue, I received an incoming voice call over IG (Declined).

Soon as he was challenged and I mentioned cyber crimes, he disappeared and as I said, IG profile is gone.

Be aware folks, and stay frosty online, scammers be everywhere!

Same thing just happened to me with the same guy, same IG user name, same address, same name. I too, noticed the email from an G gmail account and called him out on it. Please stay vigilant my friends!!!

A similar thing just happened to me too. This time the guy's name was "Brian Portell." Used the exact same address. Be careful, there are a lot of scammers out there... 😖

Anyway to report this clown to the IG folks?

There's a button to report the guy as a scammer on IG. I did that, and also blocked him.

Second attempted scam in a week!! If anyone ever attempts to throw cash at you, you better watch out...
