Glad they got there safely, Jack! When you said, that in all your rambling and roving and searching you had yet to find any of those old Barlows, I was aghast!
Our own great Barlow historian, and not a real, old Sheffield Barlow to show for it!!
Not the most pristine examples, but respectable I'd say!!

BTW, that knife roll is one of a dozen prototypes I had made several years ago. I abandoned the project as un-viable, but they turned out pretty nice! Enjoy it and the knives in good health;
and thanks for all your generosity in the past!!!!!:)

The Traditional Forum is the last truly civilized portion of the forum, it’s always been an honor to be included amongst the Porch Dwellers....

Jack and Charlie are like the kind wise old great grandfathers ;) :)

I certainly share your sentiments about the porch, but am quite upset with the “old” part!
I did the math in Mr Black’s post and discovered that he’s thirteen years younger than me!:D

Jack Black Jack Black - I’d never realized the Barlow was not an American pattern!
Thanks for the history lesson.
Remember, to receive such friendship, one must be a friend.

Thanks again for the very kind words my friends, I never cease to be amazed at the quality of the folks we have here on The Porch :)

...am quite upset with the “old” part!

I use the term with the utmost respect for the people on the porch, especially the more senior members..... here ... wait.... let me make it easier for the old folks...

For the hard of hearing and the visually impaired...I said

The other thing I love about everyone here is they do have a sense of humor, I don't care what anyone says. ;)

Really Good stuff!:thumbsup: Reading this put a big ole smile on my face, congrats on have been granted stewardship of those old Barlows Jack, and wow! Charlie, what a most spectacular gesture!:thumbsup: You both are pillars of this old porch.

here's my collection of ancients. until Charlie and GEC came around you just couldn't find an ancient barlow that wasn't already all used up! but now they have made things right for us youngsters.
It's an honor to see that New Ancient lined up with its ancestors!!:)

And I like the sense of humor around here also!!:D

What a spectacular bit of cutlery history and friendly generosity. Great to hear about all around, and a treat to see those old knives.
...I did not think of you as Old when we were at the Bladeshow .

Harry
When does old really start? It seems to me that for the most part it keeps movin’ away from me, it seems I’m always just at the edge of old age tryin’ to put more distance between us.

I guess, compared to these old Barlows, we're all pretty young - one of the reasons I like carrying old knives ;)

Fantastic gift Jack, I'm sure you will be a fine caretaker of those wonderful barlows. Very generous of you Charlie:thumbsup:

Taking that line of thinking a bit farther, and applying my psychology degree, I can’t help but wonder if part of the appeal of carrying around an old knife with plenty of usefulness left in it, is a subconscious reinforcement that we ourselves, as we age, still have plenty of usefulness left in us. I think that’s one of the great fears about getting old.

Maybe a bit too off topic, or just too deep for this early in the day. Sorry if either are the case. Great knives Jack! And fitting that they should find themselves with you.
