Nope right page:D;)

Ouch!

How're you typing with part of your finger all dinged up?

:)

oh i see.....i use fire ash.....works just fine....

just kidding, i really use blackpowder and a match..........;)

Hmmm, which finger is that? He may be trying to tell us something.....

It actually grew back on most of it. Was impossible to type for a while.

Beware the skookum bush tool! cut thru a stick I was foolishly notching while holding wrong, thru my glove and that part of my finger was only hanging on by about a 1/8" peice of skin:rolleyes:

I had just got it back in the mail with the new JRE sheath and took it out with me hunting and was playing around. My wife was hunting above me down the hollow and she said "I wondered why you were going down the path to the house so early and so fast" If I had the powder instead of the firesteel I could have finished the days hunt!

YUP! Quikclot is the cats ass for clotting bloodflow, along wiht a compress guaze and pressure.

the stuff sure heats up though!

Nasty cut HD. Glad it healed up good.

what's the deal with black powder and fire ash?

I'd use high pressure irrigation, compression and elevation. Then maybe steri-strip it or something. Quick-clot can cause burns and should really only be used when there's serious trauma I think.

ouch... i pulled one of those one time, while trying to cut some semi-frozen meat... :o i forgot to take it out to thaw, so dad made me cut it anyway...:(

yeowtch that gives me the heabie jeabies. i hate thinking about cuts, with the way the tissues are just smushing against eachother and sliding around...blech. funny how i love things that cut anyways.

i did something very similar, but at the base of my pinky. that one cut so deep that there was actually blood on the blade (anyone that has cut themselves alot knows that you have to have alot of blood flow for that to happen). i was cordwrapping the handle and i forgot to tape up the blade. doh!

maybe i should look into that quickclot stuff...i just wrapped mine in a towel, but then i decided to go to the hospital (and found out that 12 hours later is too long to get stitches)

I still have a scare on my leg from when I was around 10, and a flat sided index finger from couple years ago's run in with a large case stockman, it needed something but there wasn't really any thing to sew, I lost the rest! Ugly looking cut, glade it healed up.

I hate it when that happens!!

Which reminds me, I need to start being more careful because I am overdue one of those "not watching what i am doing" cuts.

Glad you are healing up, HD , fingers up!

Yarrow works great to stop bleeding, although it probably wouldn't have helped much in this case even if there was some around. I was hiking with the wife and our dog one time when the dog injured one of her claws. I have heard that a dog can slowly bleed to death through a claw injury because it doesn't clot very well. After about an hour of the dog leaving bloody tracks everywhere my wife found some yarrow and made a poltice. In about 5 minutes the bleeding stopped. It has a bunch of other uses too.

I see in your pic that you have some cord wrapped around the sheath. Could you not just put some quickclot and a few band-aids on the sheath with some cord wrapped around em. If you need the cord just put the other stuff in a pocket for the time being. Just an idea.

P.s. When I was still new in the kitchen i cut off a corner of my left index finger. That was 7-8 yrs ago and I still have a flat spot there. Man, wish I still had the pics of it.

curl your fingers, curl your fingers, curl your fingers...:D:D

Yup the SBT will learn ya' fast! The knife has an uncompromising way of teaching correct holds and such. I got schooled making a figure four trap, left index finger knuckle. I swear I heard the SBT giggle.

I'm interested in that sheath. Where did you get it? Mac
