instruments

I've played guitar for almost 5 years now, everything from classical to modern metal:) only thing I don't favor is rap

Instruments! Now you've struck a harmonious chord with me. :D
I play both classical and jazz piano, (I used to take lessons and practice 'till I'd drop because I intended to become a professional concert pianist. I changed my mind, however, when I learned what it was like.) (and teach piano lessons too,) folk, country, jazz, and some rock 'n roll guitar, (and teach guitar lessons too,) and classical and jazz clarinet with some bands. Harmonica, tuba, baritone, euphonium, and saxophone for some side hobby fun. (I'm not really good on those instruments, I just fiddle :p around to relax.)

So, yeah, I play an instrument(s) and am pretty good on the big three: piano, guitar, and clarinet.

Ya I love playing instruments My favourite type to play is big band with a kickin drummer. But when I want to relax I play the french horn. O ya and I hate rap as well! (I enjoy listening to classical, jazz, and classic rock) You seem like quite the musician cosine!

Yeah, well, for a long time it had been pretty much my only hobby and eventually became an obsession. I've also found that I'm able to relax through music in a way not found in any other hobby.

I also do a fair amount of composing and arranging; if anything, I like composing and arranging better than actually playing.

Now that this is in the correct forum I will tell you that I play bass guitar. My current rig is a Dean Edge I 5-string playing out of a Peavey TNT 115 Combo Amp. I use vintage BOSS wah and effects pedals most of the time. My older rig was a BC Rich Warlock. I sold that about 15 years ago. It was rare at the time because it was a lefty. I wish I still had it.

Man, that looks like a nice axe, K.V.
I've been wanting to get a bass guitar. (Maybe in a coupla years...) Got any recommendations? Anything I should look for or stay away from?

I would not get an expensive bass right off the bat. Dean makes some well priced basses and alot of music stores have starter packages. You can find some starter packages pretty cheap ($200-$350) here.

Thanks, K.V. I'll take a look into those. In fact, that was about what I wanted to spend anyhow.

Edit: Thanks to stu for the advice too.

I've been playing the cello for a good eight years so far and the guitar for about two, and as it is I'm currently in the local youth symphony. This summer should be interesting, we're going to Australia to play the Sydney Opera House. Personally, I just can't wait til I'm old enough to get into a real orchestra (I'm sixteen).

Oh, and cosine, any bass Fender makes (precision, jazz) is a good bass indeed, although they'll probably cost you more than $200-300

I'm contemplating picking up a lefty acoustic bass. I pick with a few guys at work and sometimes it sucks to carry all of my equipment to the firehouse so an acoustic may be a good choice.

By the way...I like Dean basses. :D

I played piano and saxaphone for maybe two years, but was never any good. I'm planning on picking up a bass this summer, mostly to fool around in my buddies garage. I still havent descided what to get. Peavey, Ibanez, Dean... I dunno...

I have played the harmonica since I was in High School in the 60's, never studied music but after all these years I can get out some notes, mostly simple folk.

I also like to strum a guitar once in a while and recently bought a Mariachi Vihuela, about which I posted here:

My two daughters went to Yamaha school of music for 14 years each, from 4 to 18 years old, they both play piano, know a good bit about music theory and have absolute ear.

I've been playing since I was a kid and really thought I would make a career out of music.

I've played keyboards and guitar but am a bassist at heart. I wish i had a picture to post of my Ovation Magnum.

I'm 42 now and get this, I'm taking guitar lessons again and loving it. I've become a Strat Cat too and am really feeling good about playing.

I would suggest looking at Ibanez for a decent quality for the money bass.

Alex,
Might I ask which Stratocaster you play? Also hoping ya' got a good teacher as that'll go a long way in improving your playing.
