I've been playing violin since I was eight, I'm 24 now. I played in a lot of orchestras, did a lot of performances, played with a group on the steps of the US capitol building... then I dislocated my left elbow and did a lot of damage. That put the violin on hold for a while... that happened in January 2002, I'm only now getting back to the point where I can play for any extended period of time without pain.
I wanted to play professionally, but then I got to college and realized that a lot of the music majors were pricks and became a little disallusioned with the classical world, so I haven't played classical much in a few years. I've started exploring different sounds that the violin can make and really enjoy some of my metal violin creations.
My main fiddle is an old handmade German instrument from the early 1920s and I play with a newer handmade bow that I bought new when I was 16. I also play a Fender electric violin through a few different amps and pedals. Great fun.
When I was 16 I decided to try my hand at viola and still have a hell of a time trying to comprehend alto clef
In high school I played trombone, but absolutely hated marching band, so I quit after my 10th grade year. I picked up a mandolin when I was 18 and fell in love with that... I've got a nice Mid-Missouri A style mando and a Fender five string electric.
Guitar has become a new passion of mine. I love metal and I've been teaching myself guitar in hopes of actually putting some music to an idea I've had for years. I'm currently playing an early 80s Strat with Texas special pickups... great blues guitar, but not so much for metal. But it'll do because it plays so easily. I've always thought Telecasters were easier to play, but this Strat plays better than any Tele I've tried.
Music and knives are my biggest hobbies... if I could only find a way to combine the two without causing major bodily harm...
