I check the exchange area once or twice a day for good deals and I don't understand why I see all these sellers post that if insurance is wanted on the package the buyer needs to pay extra. REALLY? Do they not understand insurance is to protect THEM and not the buyer? If I buy a package and the seller asks me if I want it insured and tell them no, you can bet if it doesn't show up ill be filing a chargeback and they will sustain the loss. I just wanted to ask other people their thoughts on this.

That is right, they don't understand. It's been explained over, and over, and over again.

I just wanted to bring it back into the light as I see so many sellers recently trying to get extra for it. Thanks for chiming in :)

I feel the same way about sellers who state that they are not responsible for lost or damaged shipments and paypal would certainly disagree with that notion. The seller is typically in control of and responsible for many steps in the process that can go wrong. They are the party that packages the item, selects the carrier, prepares the address label and delivers it to the carrier for shipment. As pointed out by Tim, shipping insurance protects the seller. The buyer is only responsible for paying for the item in a timely manner and providing a valid shipping address.

This is one reason a lot of sellers specify (GIFT ONLY) so they can not be held responsible. When you pay using the (gift) option your out of luck if you item does not show, or the seller screws you over. I refuse to pay using the gift option and feel it should no longer b allowed here. A lot of other sites are not allowing it to protect their members!

Start a thread in tech support. If it garners enough support, it could be made into a rule. You never know.

I never use gift option just for that reason. I would def. support the ban of using gift option!

There is Dealer on here that has this on the bottom sales threads.
"If you want insurance or signature confirmation, that is additional and at your expense. Items are shipped FOB"
According to him he is not responsible for lost or stolen items. I bought a watch from him that didn't show up when it was supposed to and when I told him if it didn't show up in a few days I would be wanting a refund. He basically told me to go pound sand. It shipped FOB. He says apparently you don't know what FOB means. Look it up. Good luck getting your money back. Many have tried and they all fail.

I would not do business with a person like that. If I buy anything from a store as opposed to a dealer (guy selling knives from his house/online storefront), I use my credit card. If things go sideways, chargeback here I come. Luckily the person you are referring to isn't a dealer here anymore.

I got curious and used the search function to find the dealer you were talking about. Did you make a GB&U post about them? Seems like a pretty bad attitude for a dealer to have.

I also thought it was funny that all the knife pictures in their for sale threads have been replaced with seemingly random photos. One of them had even been replaced with a photoshopped picture of justin bieber which I don't want to describe any further, but lets just say it was very inappropriate.

I always get insurance when I sell items since as the seller it is my responsibility to make sure it gets to the buyer.

No I did not make a post about him. In the end the watch did show up. I just made a mental note to myself to not deal with him again. I was kind going to link the sales thread until I saw the cartoon porn. All that stuff was not there when I bought the watch. I am also a little curious why he is no longer a dealer here, then again if he treated other people like he did me I can see why he is no longer here.

^^^ Sums it up perfectly. If you send me money or another knife for a knife I have, it's now your knife. It's my responsibility to get it into your hands safely. Insurance is to reimburse me if I have to refund or return your trade fodder because the post office lost your knife on it's way to you.

I am selling something big money I have them track it and sign for it and I also insurance it some of the time I didn't charge enough for all of that in shipping. oh well my bad but there is no way they can say they didn't get it. I am thanking some one I don't have to worry about this any more. I don't have anything big to see but I see on the site that there is a lot of people and dealers that do. I wish them well.

Insurance is cheap when compared to the knife and shipping, and insurance provides another layer of protection.
