Joe, I've had the "zebra stripes" show up on other blades,... but not that many. They always seem to show up best on blades with a relatively thin and wide cross section. I think it is also important to quench it as close to critical temperature as possible for that type of effect.

Good luck with the muffle! It really seems to help.

I just used the muffle to normalize the blade and not only did it work great.....I was able to hold around 1500 +- 15-20 without even touching the thing......the pipe, whihc was a couple of millimeters too big and had to be ground a bit on one side to fit though the door "adjusted" itself and now fits fine It is kinda funky seeing a big piece of pipe like that glowing,
