intended purpose(s) of the ASH1 design?

I carried my CG ASH1 today on a long snowshoeing trip. When I stopped to rest a bit and warm up an MRE for lunch, I used the ASH1 to knock the limbs off a downed hemlock so I'd have a nice bench for dining. :)

The blade is short enough for easy carry, but wide/thick/heavy enough to have some chopping power. I easily hacked the dead, frozen limbs off flush with the tree trunk, something that wouldn't have been quite as easy to do with my Skinny ASH.

I bought the Skinny ASH first and immediately fell in love with it. When I bought the CG ASH1, it seemed overly thick to me and I wondered if I was going to use it much. I came to love this blade, as well. Now, it's a tough decision to make whether I'll carry the ASH1 or Skinny ASH when I'm headed into the woods.

I have two CG ASH-1's and for several reasons one being I work alot in my current position so I have not had Field Time with my ASH-1's. I really need to change that but another problem is I live way out in the Desert where there is very few trees and my drive to work is 1 hour one way, so between work and no trees, not much to do but just look at my ASH-1's. Thats OK because when Uncle Sam moves me again, I hope to be in a place with alot more woods around.

Who did that?

I just took my CG-Ash1 out camping in the snow with the scouts this weekend. It sure makes a handy hot dog roasting stick maker! The handle design is very good for retention.

It also has enough blade belly for skinning and game processing.
I used it to help butcher an elk earlier this season, and it worked great.
It is not overly long, but long enough and hefty enough for just about anything you will need to do. It is not obtrusive when strapped to the pack, or the belt. You can still sit down with it on with no problems (when carrying the FBMLE you have to pay attention, and adjust before plopping down in a chair).

as a side note, I've said it before, but the saber grind on the Ash1 is awesome. Some one could make a cottage industry out of that service!

The ASH was nodded by a gentleman in The Netherlands, I believe. Crafft will tell you his name momentarily. However, Jeremy or Ban could do something similar, as could Gart at the BCK shop.

That is the only ASH I have ever REALLY liked.

I've got a skinny ash, to me it's a jack of all trades knife, there better whittlers, choppers, slicers, ect, but this is the best do it all knife I've got.

What I really like about the design is the wide blade. I much prefer a knife that gets its strength from width rather than thickness, gives it much better geometry.

Don't know what it's actually intended for, but a guess would be cutting things.;)

I use mine for all sorts of hard use things - cutting bones & meat, trimming trees, splitting wood for the fire, jacking up the car :D

It's great all rounder

.

Its intended use is to take your money and support Jerry's JWB habit!

I have a CG ASH1, ASH1 LE, and a ASH1 SE. I like the heavy CG and the thin SE version the best. The LE just does not really do it for me. I thought about buying a skinny ASH, but I think the SE model I own is already a skinny ASH. When weight is an issue, that would deffinitly be the perfect knife to carry. When wieght is not an issue, I love the fattys.

45ACP, can you post a picture of all three together lying on a table in a row, then a spine shot? thanks! If anyone knows the specs for all 3 I'm interested in knowing the differences in this model.

Are driving me ASH Crazy! I want to cut and chop with my FAT ASH but there won't be no Weight comming off that FAT ASH no matter how you sweat it!

1tracker, my girlfriend has the camera, but I will get you a shot of all three and the spines tomorrow.

HOLY FANFREAKINGTASTIC!!!!!!!!!:thumbup::cool::eek:

Crafft that is........I can't believe it.........I'm flippin speachless?????????:o

the skinny ASH was designed for nice woods work and utility work.

the fat .320 ASH was designed for one thing and one thing only and that is the end of the world.ARMAGEDDON.

I have two ASH1's, one sage and one double cut, both with magnum G-10's. The double cuts in the safe, the other in its kydex waiting to be called up for duty. LOL.

As has been said I think its a great all arounder that can do near anything. Shoot, you can dig a fire pit with it too.

When I first got one, what came to mind was it would be a good breaching tool for military use. I cant imagine many flimsy Iraqi structures that it couldnt demolish. Even better a INFI tomahawk.
