Interested in a special run of Norax 9"discs???

Sure, sounds good. I actually prefer plain discs, and 3M977 spray adhesive. They are much faster to change out, and, the adhesive residue can easily be removed when it builds up. Cheaper, too.
In grits less than 120, you're better off buying discs. Too difficult to trim.

Just my humble input.....

Pardon my ignorance, but what operations are you guys using the disc sanders for?

If there is a better way of doing things , please share.

Mark, a reversable, variable speed disc grinder is amazing and one of those tools you will soon wonder how you got by with out it. First, it makes flat things much flatter than a belt and I suppose that is the main use for it. Flat bolsters, scales, blade flats, handles, you name it. The disc grinder improved my tolerance in fit up by at least .001" and probably .002". They are quiet so you find yourself turning that on before the belt grinder for a quick touch up on things.

I've done flat grinds on the disc but find it easier to do it on the belt grinder and then possibly some finish work on the disc to get it really flat.

I guess the bottom line is I put out a significantly closer tolerance (better) knife by using one. You need to put it one on the tool list.

Just found this old thread, and am wondering whatever happened with these Norax 9" discs? Seeins how, I now have a disc sander/grinder(sort of).

Good news on these Danbo...
I have some prototype Norax 9" discs in 5x, 15x, 30x, 65x and 100x. I've used these on several knives so far. These have the cotton cloth backing just like the belts so you use 3m feathering spray adhesive to mount these on the disc plate. I also sent out a few to a couple others to test. I can tell you these things ROCK! I'm still working on getting a production run of these but I believe it will happen and these will be 'must have' for disc grinders. I have absolutely no idea on pricing of these yet but they will last a very long time.

I'm in, just let me know what to do. I just purchased a Varible speed disc grinder from Rob Frink and can't wait to use it.

I'm in too for some for personal use. In fact, if you're looking for someone to carry these, send me some details, we're looking to pick up a line of abrasives (discs and belts) sometime this year...

:)

Keep us posted. I have my disc sander almost ready to fire up, and will be needing some of these discs.

It took a full year to work it out but I have Norton Norax 9" discs and 9"x11" sheets to sell.

I arranged to have a special production run of these made and I bought the entire run. This was a significant investment and I am in the process of setting up a knifemakers supply web site to sell these. Naturally setting up the web site is a slow process but I can sell these via paypal payment or direct payment until I get the web site up and running. See the knifemakers supply forum for more information..
