Interested in the ESEE-3/Mil but have a question about belt carry

After researching for good fixed blade knives I have made my mind up and want to purchase a ESEE-3 or the ESEE-3Mil. One of my main concerns is am I able to carry this knife on my belt? I would mainly be using it as an everyday carry knife while at work and such. Does the boot clip hold up well for wearing on a belt?

Also is it possible to use the back plate with the boot clip?

I've worn 10 different folding knives of various makes and models over the years and never needed to really know anything about how to carry one. Time to change that I guess :)

Thanks for the help.

The paracord belt loop system works great for me. It is very secure and simple. Or you could order a Tek-Lok.

Mike has mentioned the boot clip wasn't really designed for a belt carry, hence it being called a boot clip.

BTW go 3MIL, post pics and taunt me so I'll buy one.

the clip's for light duty/IWB type carry. i use the clip for pocket carry, and have another sheath set up with the molle back for belt carry.

Hmm, never messed with para cord or MOLLE. Might just have to find a small generic nylon sheath with a kydex insert or something.

Is it possible to MOLLE directly to a 1.5" belt? Or would I have to find a MOLLE belt loop of sorts to attach the sheath to? Thanks for the help, this is all new to me.

The MOLLE locks that come with the knife are intended to be woven through MOLLE webbing. They “could” be snapped over a belt, but that allows the knife to rotate back and forth. Another option for the paracord belt loop is instead of using the cord lock, just put the knife on the belt and knot the paracord. Then you just thread the belt on through the paracord like a regular belt loop.

For a belt, I’d still say go with the paracord option or a Tek-Lok. I think you’ll be pleasanty surprised with the paracord. I was a bit iffy about it myself at first, but now I wouldn’t have it any other way for a belt application.

Thanks, I guess I'll give the para cord a shot before I go spending more money elsewhere.

Not the Esee 3 but this is my carry method. Also lends itself to tying to a pack strap or just slipping in a pocket.

I prefer carrying it on the molle backing, which loops through a belt wonderfully:

Looking at pics of the Molle backing it looks like it could be a snug fit with my Wilderness Instructors belt which I wear everyday as a regular belt. Its a little bit stiffer and thicker than a regular leather belt I'd say.

I believe I'll try and order a ESEE-3 Mil as it comes with all the goodies.

Has anyone bead blasted their ESEE knives? The black is alright but, recently I've been straying from "tactical black and OD" and leaning more towards satin steel looks. I know this would cause rust to build up faster but, that wouldn't be too bad I don't think.

I've got the 3MIL and use a large tek-lok with the knife between my belt and pants, it works great, keeps the knife close to the body and I don't even know it's there. Hope that helps.

I carry mine horizontally using paracord.

No issues at all..

HORRIBLE pic, but you get the idea.

Use a Tek Lock for belt carry. Molle locks are meant to be used with Molle webbing. The Boot clip is more durable than you would think. It attaches to the belt and carries well.
The newer Tek Locks have an adjustment for various belt thickness.

I like the kydex sheath my RC 3 came with. It fits well on the molle straps when I carry it on my CamelBak pack.
For belt carry though, I have changed to a leather pouch sheath. Dwayne at Armoralleather made it for me.
