Interested in the ESEE-3/Mil but have a question about belt carry

I love that. Whenever I get mine I will most definitely be stripping the powdercoat off. You said you cold blued the blade right?

I've been wearing mine alot like this here.....very comfy ride, forget I have it on most times...

Yes ,lightly.. gun blue kit from wal-mart($10) , I left the paint under scales to protect from rust & Grime

The boot clip works just fine to wear on your belt, just be sure to put the knife on the inside of the belt, and the clip outside of the belt. Wear it this way often, outside of the jeans, under the belt.

If you just hook it on the belt on the outside, it will break. Mike Perrin addressed this some time back.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I have a few ways to try to carry on the belt. I'd try it in my pocket but, my S&W M&P340 occupies my right pocket which is where I would carry the knife. I'm right handed so I wonder if I should do a crossdraw type draw or have it on my right side.

I use a Tek Lok with my 3, and it works great. The ability to slide the spacer to fit your belt makes a difference, and it doesn't slide around on my belt very much. Adding it to the sheath made me love the knife even more, as now I have a better way to actually carry and use it.

I came close to losing my RC-3MIL last weekend on a 10 mi hike. Wore it on my belt on the outside of my belt and the knife, clip and kaboodle all went flying at the halfway point when I took off my pack. If it weren't for my buddy seeing it fly off I may never have found it. Switching to Tek-Lok...that's what I get for not believing...

The problem with the ESEE-3 boot/belt clip is that if you want to wear it on your belt or IWB it sits way too high to be balanced or comfortable.

The handle will tend to lean out away from your side and bump into things or "print" if you are trying to conceal it under a shirt.

I don't know of anyone who actually carries a blade in their boot, but I imagine you'd have the same problem and worry about it poking out or flopping around all the time - which pretty much defeats the purpose.

Don't get me wrong, the clip attachment is sturdy and well-made - but it simply is not ideal for belt or waistband carry because of how the clip must be mounted in the middle of the sheath.

If you aren't concerned with concealing the knife at all, just use the clip as a pocket clip as someone else has already shown or use the molle backing to attach it to a pack or "drop-leg" style. The ESEE sheath system works great either way.

The 3-MIL is a great little knife, and ESEE quality is top-notch. If it fits your hand, you'll love it.

I use a spyderco G Clip with my Izula. It works pretty well, I like it better than the Tek-Loc I think. Very easy to put on, a little harder to remove without undoing the belt though.

I don't know exactly what you mean by wilderness belt but I wear a 1 3/4" riggers belt with kydex insert for with a holster. I shoot uspsa-production and use a tek lok on my hislter, now the only problem is that the thickness of the belt with the leftover tail of the belt makes it to thick for the lok to close. I just fold over the tail, but lesson learned is if it's good enough for uspsa it's good enough for the 3.
