Interesting Article by Hank Reinhardt...

Thanks for the heads up, Ken. Great article.

I liked it so much that I copied it and emailed it to Jerry and Jim Keating. Jerry already emailed me back to say that he thought it was right on as well.

excellent summation on the sword....I was a bit taken back by some of the slack-jawed yokel comments after the article though by the forumites there.

"My shotgun would kick yer butt....blah blah blah"

At least swords-people for the most part have class.

You know the thing that has always weirded me out about Hank is that he seems to know a lot about swords and by all reports has a very nice collection but yet he still backs the poorly made (for the most part) stuff that is being hawked by MRL. What gives?

That is the same reason that I use for totally getting behind the articles that he writes as well Triton.

Seems like he should know better...or maybe he is just one hell of a smart business man!

Regardless of how much you know, you've got to go where the money is if you want to make a living of it.

Let's face it, there's not a LOT of places where you can parlay an extensive knowledge of swords into a livelyhood!

Who else is he going to work for?
Darkwood? They make and sell great swords, but they don't exactly need someone with HR's qualifications.
Angus Trim? Same same.
Jody Samson?

I know a lot of you guys look at MRL and think "junk" but the fact is, that's really not true!

No, they're not the best, and "The Best" isn't sweating too much at the thought of MRL catching up to them, but they generally turn out a usable product.

I can't blame him a bit for working where he does. I'm happy to see that he's found a niche' where he can make his efforts pay off, and who knows? Maybe he's steering them in the right direction!

Maybe over time, we'll see an improvement in QC at MRL and some design improvements that will make them even more suitable for our uses, and if so, we might have a lot to thank Hank Reinhardt for.

GREAT article though!

You've hit it on the head Ken. Buisness with a capital B.

If you want a ferrari, don't expect to find it at the Ford Dealer.

Truly one of the finest articles ever written about swords and its evolution through the ages.

Bravo!

Maybe you are right Ken, I certainly hope so. By all reports the prototypes for the new CASI stuff that is coming out (which Hank apparently had a hand in) is supposed to be very nice. Perhaps that will show MRL that they are in danger of losing even the low end market and encourage them to make some changes.
