Interesting Comparison

Because it's thicker (as far as i know), and iirc it's a custom piece :p

Totaly, but the base model is 5/16s and you can upgrade to 3/8s.

Ya, you're right about it being a Custom Shop piece. I didn't think their would be such an increase because of that one factor.

That thing is so huge.

infi is a custom order steel, as it is only made for busse combat, and as i recall it its qutie expensive.

purchasing a stock bar in 3/8 would be considerably more expensive (50% more so would not suprise me) then one in 1/4, or even 5/16" in any steel, and moreso in the expensive high alloys

being as long as it is, the price is further excacerbated by the thickness. to get a 3/8" thick knife of that size blanchard ground is more expensive and time consuming, getting the bevels and edge and everything else on it is more time consuming, and in the end, basically, every process that is used to make the knife is increased in iether time, difficulty, or cost.

so while adding 3" of length ,and 1/8" more in width may not seem like much, it adds up quickly in the production. (plus there is a pain in the butt gratuity charge :D )

Thanks for the information Peter, you have just made a classical comparison between a blade with more power and heft vs one with a slimmer profile and more speed. It is interesting to note that chopping ability depends not only on wood type but task. Limbing for example is generally goaled to cut the limb in one pass, thus you don't consider binding usually, so a decently heavy machete can be a nice blade to limb with, but be horrible in thick wood as it will just stick. Anyway nice work, keep up the posts.
